Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at FAR- Fallen Angel Reviews. We know a few things about you such as your web site:
http://www.danielledevon.com but we are all curious to know more. So by answering these questions you can help us get to know you. Being a busy and talented lady we want to know more about you, much more!
What is this we hear that you have a notebook of all your works that did not fit in the published or works in progress, what is in there and can you tell us how that came about? Like the poetry.
The Notebook is sort of writer’s journal posted on my website where I’ve compiled a small collection of poems and short stories, usually written in the spur of the moment. Their purpose doesn’t lie in publication or promotion but simply to explore the momentary inspiration. It sort of a creative exercise that I decided would be fun to share with readers.
Of all your books which one would you say holds the most meaning for you and why?
Each book holds a special meaning for me, because in some small part each book is a part of me. I suppose if I had to pick only one to hold dear it would have to be my first, Captive Bride. Being that it was my first, I poured a lot of myself into that story.
If you could pick one book which book or story would you like to personally take part in as the character?
I’d have to say that I’d personally like to take the part of Calli in my current work in progress, “Forsaken”. What starts out as a flicker of attraction to handsome vampire ends up turning the entire world upside down with Calli as the axis on which it spins.
Besides writing all those great books, what do you do in your spare time, if you have any?
I’m afraid being a mother, a writer and a designer doesn’t leave me much spare time… but when I do manage to steal a few moments away I love to read. I usually end up making a trip to Starbucks first though, because I’m about as addicted to coffee as I am to books.
Are you under contract for any new books, or have any in the works? Can you tell us a little bit about them? Just a little, please?
My current work in progress which I hinted to above is called “Forsaken”. I suppose on the surface it might look like your traditional girl-meets-vampire story, but things aren’t ever what they seem, are they? LOL Since this story is nearing completion and will hopefully soon be in the editor’s hand, I’ve also got another vampire work in progress called “The Devil’s Song”. And somewhere in there, I do plan on finishing the second Daughters of Anista, which is the sequel to Captive Bride.
What's your favorite thing about fall? (since its right around the corner)
You mean besides the fact that the kids go back to school? LOL I love the change of leaves, when those calming Autumn colors replace the stark brightness of Summer. When the weather gets cooler and there is always this slight chill in the air. It hints that Winter is just around the corner.
When writing what do you consider to be the key elements of a great story?
Characters. Hands down. I’m a firm believer that great characters make great book.
Tell us something about you they would never guess.
Since there never seems to be a solid mother figure in anything I write, most readers would probably never guess that I have a wonderful relationship with my mother and that she is one of my biggest fans.
With all those great reviews on your books can you tell us what you are striving to capture next?
A top ten slot on the New York Times Bestsellers list? LOL That one may be a bit of a stretch, but truthfully all I ever try to capture with my work is the heart of the reader. If I’ve done that, even with just one reader, then I consider the book a success.
What is the one thing that makes you cringe when it comes to doing? I hate laundry!
Oh, I hear you on the laundry. (grin) But I think the thing I dread most is when I hear my Mother say “I’ve got an idea” because usually that includes my checkbook, a weekend worth of work and some half-baked idea of how we can do this, that or the other on her house. LOL
Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
I usually find that I will take a bath or a shower and try to relax and forget the stresses of the day, before I sit down to write. And since I usually only write at night after the kids have gone to bed, it’s a nightly ritually at least a few times a week.
Tell us please what you are up to now? What is on the horizon? You have a new vampire book you started this month can you tell us about?
As I mentioned above, I’m still working on “Forsaken” which will hopefully be finished here shortly. Next will come “The Devil’s Song” which is again, another vampire story. Both of which I hope will be completed and out by the end of the year.
What are the Seralins? My curiosity is peaked. What is the secret that they have kept for centuries?
Well now, if I tell you the secret they’ve kept it’ll ruin the entire book! LOL What I can tell you is that the Seralin’s are a group of watchers… vampire watchers to be specific and the secret they carry will undo the vampire world as we know it.
