Vivienne King Interview

Hi Vivienne! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us. I know that I appreciate this opportunity to visit with you.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a mother, a wife, and writer. My hubby is in the US Air Force, so because of that we get to do quite a bit of traveling. I’ve also been blessed with the ability to remain a stay at home mom, though now that son will start school next year it’s time for me to start thinking about a job. Blah. LOL, four years will make you lazy to return to the work force. Though I will be going back to college and hopefully finish up my degree this time. So that’s definitely a plus.

Looking back on life is there a certain event or time that inspired you to become an author?
You know, not really. I think I also knew I wanted to write. It was just finding the time and finally getting serious about it. I was also, very sadly, of the impression that writing a book was no big deal and getting onto bookstore shelves was a bigger, no big deal. HA! Boy was I ever wrong. Hehehe.

How long have you been writing?
Going on 5 years. So I guess I’m relatively new, but I wouldn’t trade those 5 years for anything. They matured me and I learned so much about the art and craft of writing. Without those 5 years I know I wouldn’t be talking with you today.

When you found out about your first sale, what was your reaction?
Elation. Joy. Wow. I first sold about 3 years ago, the company has since folded, but they gave me my start and I will always remember them fondly.

Do you write on a schedule or as inspiration hits?
I try to write on a schedule. But that’s near to impossible with a little one. I love writing during the day, but like I said, he likes all my attention. LOL. So I tend to write more at night after everyone’s asleep and the house is quiet. So far that’s been the best time for me to write.

Though when inspiration strikes, heaven help the person who tries to stand in my way. LOL. My muse goes on hiatus often, so when she comes back around, I drain her dry.

Witch Hunt has recently been released through New Concepts Publishing. Can you give a little bit of information where the idea for this story came from?
Actually the story was my partners, Leanne. She’d had the prologue written and just gathering dust for ages. I’m, or rather was, strictly a paranormal author. She’d never done anything outside of historicals or contemps, so we figured let’s give it a shot together and see if it unfolds. And the rest is history. (grin)

Witch Hunt was written by you and Leanne Karella. Can you tell us what it was like co-authoring a story? Do you have plan to co-author any more in the near future?
Co-authoring was fun. We talked about the concept, but the little nuances were all us. So it was fun to trade chapters or scenes and see what the other had done. It was an experiment that turned out better than I think either of us hoped. I enjoyed the entire process and would definitely look into doing it again if I found the right person and the right project.

One of my favorite characters in Witch Hunt was Granna Merona. Do you have a favorite character and if so who is it and why?
Oh, who doesn’t love Granna? LOL. She was too much fun to write. With the other characters we had to give them true to life personalities. Granna we could just cut loose on. She was intelligent, but almost like a child in that whatever she thought might be funny to do, she’d just do. Really cool when you can come across a character like that. So yeah, she’s my favorite too.

Per your website, I see you have an upcoming release through Cobblestone Publishing entitled Fire and Ice. First of all, the cover for this story is wonderful. I see that the hero, Pyroth, is from a kingdom of fire and the heroine, Lumina, is on ice. Can you give us a hint as to what might happen when fire and ice meet? (grin)
They combust! LOL. The novella takes place in a land where region is divided by elements, and the inhabitants of that region are able to harness those powers as their own. In their own right both Pyroth and Lumina are strong, courageous figures. But together they’re unstoppable. I had a blast writing them.

Are your characters based on real life people or are they completely made up?
When I first started writing, all my characters were based on real people. I guess I wasn’t creative enough to think outside the box. LOL. But as I’ve matured, they’re completely made up. I’m able to stretch my artistic wings a little more now and it’s so much fun to come up with people so unlike myself or those I know.

What type of research goes into your novels?
You know, not much. I’m not a historical writer, so a lot of what I use in my books—be it fantasy or paranormals—I draw a lot of scenarios and what if’s from real life. I watch the news and national geographic shows mostly, and find tons of inspiration to draw from there.

Per your website, I see you write paranormals. Is there another genre you would like to try your hand at writing?
Well I recently delved into eroticas and more recently a contemporary erotica. It’s been so much fun to write, but I have to keep reminding myself that no strange bat creatures can jump out and scare my hero and heroine while they’re getting down and dirty on the beach. LOL. Other than that, it’s been rewarding. I’m pretty sure I’ve found myself a second niche. So now I like to call myself an author of paranormal and erotica contemporaries. Hehehe.

Most authors are avid readers. Do you have any favorite authors/books?
Oh, the list would be way too long. But I’ll pare it down to the automatic buys for me. P.C. Cast, Laurell K. Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Piers Anthony, Stephen King, Christine Feehan, Patricia Briggs, ummm and this list could go way way on. LOL

Is there something that you always have with you?
My son. He’s pretty much in tow with my all the time. LOL. We’re like two peas in a pod, we enjoy each other and it’s just as much torture for me to be without him as the other way around. My little partner in crime.

What TV show or movie would you consider torture to watch repeatedly?
Anything reality. *Shudder* I have an intense dislike for all things reality and can’t wait for the day that this trend will die. Sorry fans, feel free to throw rotten tomatoes at me now. LOL.

Do you have a hero in either a movie or book that you wish was real?
Mmm…well I think it would have to be the werewolf/vampire hybrid from Underworld. Oh yes, very yummy.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us? Upcoming releases? Works in progress?
Keep your fingers crossed for me and look out for more of my stuff. I have a series that if all goes well you may find in bookstore shelves in the not so distant future. :D

Thank you so much for stopping by Vivienne. For anyone looking for a paranormal romance, look no further. Stop by Vivienne’s website to see what you don’t want to miss. It has been a pleasure talking with you.
