Today I am speaking with
D.L. Warner.
Hi
D.L.! I would like to welcome you to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is wonderful having you with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy routine to answer questions for us. The readers would love to hear something about
D.L. Warner.
Thank you for having me. I'll be glad to share.
What is a typical day like for you,
Deborah? May I call you
Deborah or do you prefer
D.L.?
Call me Deborah. A typical day begins really early. I either have a film in development or I'm freelancing on someone else's, so I answer e-mail and take calls related to that in the morning. On a good day, things slow down between 11am to about 1pm. Then, I input what I've written - usually fiction - the night before on my legal pads. The phones start going in the afternoon or I may have to leave home for a meeting. In the evening, my hubby usually bounces me off the PC. Then I write more of my fiction on legal pads to input the next day.
What does your working space look like?
It's a corner of the living room where a large computer stand sits with a beat up office chair my husband got from work when the office was remodeled.
Why not tell us about your great books and upcoming projects?
'The Gift of Surrender' came out a couple of months ago. It was nicely reviewed (one was from you kind folks). That's my fantasy tale of swords, sorcery and sensuality. I am almost finished the sequel, 'The Price of Surrender’ that continues the amorous adventures of the same characters. I'm hoping it is equally well received. I also have two films in development. One of them should be filmed this summer.
When did you decide to take "pen in hand" and write with the intent to publish?
I've wanted to be published since I was a child. I kept getting advice to find myself a career to fall back on. I got sidetracked by that for a number of years. Too many years. I picked up the pen again three years ago.
Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
No, not really. I've always have scenes playing in my head. So, I just find a moment and some space and start writing. I'm lucky that way.
Where do you come up with the names for your books and characters?
For 'The Gift of Surrender' and 'The Price of Surrender,' since the setting was inspired by Middle-Earth, I used the same base language Tolkein used. I went online and found a Finnish-English translator page. I also used a page with Finnish baby names. I guess that's why I get a lot of inquires from Scandinavia.
Do you have any bad writing habits?
I'm not as disciplined as I should be. I don't do a page a day or three pages a day. I write in spurts. I'm also not a careful outliner. That gives me plot problems sometimes.
Of all the individuals you have created, do you have a particular favorite? What appeals to you the most about this character?
It would be Prince Nikulainen. He's not only beautiful, he's brave and funny and very tender. I wish he were real.
You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
Chocolate and a note pad and pencil.
Has being published changed you at all?
No, I don't think it has. Maybe I would if I was making JK Rowling money!
What type of books would we find on your bookshelf?
A lot of Romances, true crime and great literature.
How do you relax?
I read.
What really draws your attention to a good book?
A well written blurb on the back. Sometimes it's a clever title.
What would the readers be surprised to learn about you?
How routine my days actually are.
For Fun: Which do you enjoy best, soothing bubble baths or hot showers?
Bubble baths.
You have quite an interesting website. Do you have a website other than
http://www.dlwarner.com/ that you would like to share with your readers?
Thank you! The film websites. http://themiddlebox.com and
http://dragoncor.com
