Renee George Interview
I am delighted to be speaking with Renee George today. Thanks for chatting with us today Renee and welcome to FAR!
What’s one thing you would like your readers to know about you?
There's not too much the readers don't already know about me. *grin* I'm really down to earth and love what I write. I can only hope it is reflected in my fiction. I have a warped sense of humor (or so I'm told). Something specific, I'm a closeted American Idol fan! (Okay, so not so much in the closet any more.) Oh! and I just found out two weeks ago that I have allergies to beef, milk, and all dairy. Let's just say, I am dying without cheesecake! (Is that too much information?)
Could you tell readers a little bit about your current release, The Beast 3: Old Ways, New Days?
The Beast 3: Old Ways, New Days is the continuing tale of two very sexy creatures of the night and the third book in the series (hence, the 3, lol). Vampires, Guillermo Perez and Dr. Nathan Greer, have found themselves in a bit of a relationship triangle. Tyrsgard Madds (a 700-year-old Viking vampire) shows up on Nathan front door claiming that Nathan is his new master. It just happens that Tyr is also Guillermo's immortal enemy. The anger and hatred between the two centuries old vampires goes back a hundred years. The tension is high and the passion is powerful! I loved writing this three-quel to The Beast: Taking Back Control! It gave me a chance to really explore the dynamics of my heroes.
What is your most favorite part of being a writer? The least favorite?
I love nearly every thing about being a writer. My favorite part is creating characters that feel like real people that you can almost see, touch, and smell (they all smell good. Trust me. *wink*). My least favorite part is deadlines, lol. But I need them to keep me ON it!
Almost every author at some point or another suffers from writer's block. Have you ever had that problem? How do you deal with it?
Oy vey! I get so blocked that sometimes I need a proverbial enema to unclog the plumbing. To get over writer's block I turn off the TV, the phone, and any other distractive devices, put on a pot of coffee (necessary to the process), sit down with the lap top and tell myself that no matter how bad I want to get up (even to pee) I will sit there until I write something, any thing, even if it's bad. Sometimes you have to write a few bad paragraphs (delete them later) to get on with it.
Could you tell us more about The Beast: Taking Back Control and where you got your inspiration for it?
This book was my first in The Beast series. I have always been a huge vampire fan (movies, books, etc.) and decided that I wanted a vampire for my own. Doctor Nathan Greer, a 30-year-old man and 3-year-old vampire) came to me one evening and said, "You have to write about me! I got some serious demons that need exercised." When I first started the book, I wasn't sure where it was going until Guillermo Perez, 500-year-old master vampire and club owner, introduced himself. It was at that time, I knew the boys were destined. Nathan is having a difficult time coming to terms with being a vampire and Guillermo Perez is the only one who can really help him come to terms and teach him to control his inner 'beast.' The first book is a total rollercoaster, fun, tense, and sexy.
Who has influenced you the most in terms of developing your personal writing?
I have so many authors that have influenced my writing, but my personal writing style has come from years of trial and error. I look at things I wrote ten years ago and I can definitely see differences. What was the question again? lol. My husband is my biggest influence. He has always encouraged me to reach for the stars. His support means every thing. I've been married to him now for 16 years (nearly) and when I told him I wanted to pursue writing full time, his words were "go for it" but his actions, allowing me to go back to school, quit working as a nurse (losing a constant income), and stay at home to reach my goals, were a testament to his love for me.
What can your fans look forward to in the next twelve months from you?
There will definitely be a Beast 4. *grin* Also, in July, Changeling Press is releasing an exciting series in which I am one of the authors. Ohh! I can't tell you any more, but you definitely need to mark that month on your calendar. I will be attending ButcherCon in Kansas City in October 2006. I’m hoping to have at least two to three more books out on top of the two I mentioned. It should be a great year!
Do you have a favorite movie that you could watch over and over again?
Hehe, you are delving into my secrets again. I am a diehard action flick kind of gal and my favorite movie of all time, that I could watch over and over, is Underworld. Okay, there are a few others, Tango and Cash, Airforce One, Twister, Independence Day... (I won't bore you with the rest of the long list!).
What is your favorite part of a book to write?
The end. LOL. Actually, I love writing the first 15 pages and the last 5 pages best.
How did you celebrate selling your first book?
I did a happy dance around my living room then my husband took me out to a fancy dinner. Really, I was flabbergasted and I've celebrated every day since my first sale (last April about this time!).
What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
"Don't sweat the small stuff." I know, it's not very exciting, but it's unbelievably true.
Has being published changed you at all? If so, how?
Other than being busier, if it's possible, being published hasn't changed who I am fundamentally. I am a writer, wife, mother, sister, and daughter. It's who I am.
Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans?
I can't imagine what I would do without my fans. They are fantastic! I'd like them all to know that I am approachable. I love getting emails from them, and I always respond to each one personally. I'd also like to say that Fallen Angel Reviews is one of the best websites on the Internet for authors and readers. They really do a fantastic job!
