Today I have the pleasure of speaking with
Loribelle Hunt. Thanks for being here today
Loribelle, welcome to FAR!
Thanks for having me, Linda.
Loribelle, the readers would love to hear something about
Loribelle. I noticed on your website, it says romance on the edge. I like the sound of that, very impression. Why not begin by telling us a little something about
Loribelle.
I'm pretty boring actually. I'm thirty something, married and a mother of three. We live in southern Alabama about sixty miles from the Gulf. It's warm or hot about nine months of the year here so we when we aren't playing softball we spend a lot of time at the beach.
When I was looking for a tagline for the website I loved how romance on the edge sounded. I write a lot of suspense and paranormal with gutsy, strong heroines and it seemed to fit.
Under Cover of the Moon sounds like a catchy title. Why not tell us how you came about writing this book?
I love books about werewolves and books about witches, and I wanted to try combining them. Once I had the characters, the witch cousins and the group of werewolf friends, a series seemed the natural course. Under Cover of the Moon is the introduction to it.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about being an author?
Probably that it's easy. Starting a book is easy. Seeing it through to the end is hard.
When did you decide you wanted to write?
I've always written, but it wasn't until last year that I decided I was going to take it seriously and make a career of writing.
Do you have any special music or anything that gets you in the mood to write?
I always listen to music when I write. It varies from book to book, but right now it's a mix of old Eighties pop/rock songs.
Where do you get the names for your characters, do you just pull them from the air?
I have long lists of names. One list is just names that seem to fit paranormal characters and the others are divided into common names by generation. When I start something new, I go through the lists. Usually as I write and get to know the characters better, the names get changed to something that seems to fit them better.
Of every character you have created, is there a particular favorite? If so, what appeals to you the most about this character?
My favorite is probably Scarlet from Gone With the Wolf, which will be out October. She's a witch and a strong independent woman. She was a lot of fun to write.
Has being published changed your life any?
Not too much. I do have more confidence in my ability to pull off a good story and much more determination to succeed in this business.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
Other than my family, food, and water, I have to have the laptop.
What books would we find on your bookshelf?
We have a lot of books-the kids books, all the classic school stuff, my research and craft books, romance of course, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, horror, and westerns. With five people in the house, we could probably open our own bookstore and cover every genre.
Do you ever find the time to relax and if so, what is your special secret to just unwind?
I'm a big believer in the need to decompress, no matter how crazy life gets. My girls are really into softball and between the spring and fall season we probably spend six or more hours a week at the ballpark. That sounds nuts and stressful, but the benefit for me is, you just can't work out there. So I spend that time hanging out with my kids and other mothers and it's a nice break. In the summer, we are all about the beach. We try to spend a weekend a month there in the summer, and it's another place you just can't work. I love those weekends because I always come back refreshed and ready to dive back into work.
If you could go anywhere, be anyone, do anything for 24 hours, what would it be?
Oh, this is a hard question! I'd love a look at the distant future, but I think I'd want to do it as myself.
Do you have any indulgent behaviors one might find surprising?
I don't think so. I love to go to the firing range and I work out with a punching bag (probably layovers from my time in the Army) but I doubt most people would consider those indulgent.
For Fun: What’s your favorite comfort food?
Chips and salsa cure all blues around my house.
Do you have any other websites or a loop that you would like to share other than this
one?
I share a group blog with a great bunch of writers at http://thenoveltygirls.com Our domain should be going live in next month or two.
Thank you so much for sharing time with us,
Loribelle. It has been a pleasure
Loribelle, and I wish you success with your writing.
Thanks for having me here, Linda. It was a lot of fun.
