Judy Mays Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews is proud to welcome Judy Mays this morning for a look at a talented and well-known author who provides her fans with some of the sexiest alphas in this world and beyond. Judy, welcome and it is an honor to be able to sit down with you and delve deeper into your fascinating world of Wolfies, Vampires and Aliens.
Thanks.

Before I begin to pump you for information about new releases, upcoming live appearances and books in the works I have to ask you about your end of summer contest. Can you tell our readers about it and how they can enter if interested?
Well, you've got to join my group if you aren't already a member. Join here

Go to the homepage of the group, on the left side of the page, click on files. Once there, click on the Beat the Heat file. At the top, select create file. Now tell me which of my wolfies you like best.

A Breath of Heat, scheduled for print release this month contains two of your widely acclaimed Wolf stories and one of my favorites, Solstice Heat. In the story you dealt with the issue of spousal abuse. This is nothing new for your books, touching on social issues that affect women. Is this your personal way of making people aware of issues that affect women in general?
I really don't think about it. I can honestly say I'm never completely sure what's going to happen in one of my stories. I just write what my characters tell me to write. To me, my characters are real. They have the same joys and problems everyone else does, so I write about them.

Speaking of stories that I personally found touching, Celestial Passions: Sheala, a story dealing with sexual assault and the difficulty a woman faces when trying to come to terms with her ability to be intimate again was pretty powerful. What type of response did you receive from readers?
Excellent responses. I received an email from a woman whose sister and best friend had both been raped. She had a great deal of praise for the way Sheala reacted and overcame her fears. She said it paralleled both her sister's and her friend's reactions.
I've saved that email.

One series I haven’t had time to read is your Myths and Legends series from Changeling Press. I noticed you have two new releases coming for this series and I’m sure our readers would love to hear more about them.
My shapeshifting pussycats. The first two, Jaguar and Puma, take place far in the past in Central American when the Mayans were at the peak of their power. Both deal with Mayan priestesses and their encounters with shapeshifters. Myths and Legends: Ocelot, which will be released in September, takes place in the present though there are references to the Mayan's past. The hero also happens to be a WWII German Afrika Corps Panzer commander who's thrown forward 70 years into the future. So, he not only has to deal with falling in love with a shapeshifter, he also has to accept the fact that he's traveled through time.

The fourth, Myths and Legends: Lilliam, which doesn't have a release date yet, has the villianess from Puma as the heroine. She's been cursed into the shape of a jaguar until the correct comment from a human releases her. The story takes place in the present, so she'd been roaming around Central America as a jaguar a LONG time.

Now the story I’m chomping at the bits for is Highland Rendezvous. Suspense, a Scottish hero and a woman in need of protection, I can’t wait!!! So please tell me this is coming out soon?
When I finish writing it. I teach. School really cuts into my writing time, and school will be starting very soon. I've gotten two stories done this summer, Myths and Legends: Ocelot and Rednecks N' Rock Candy, the sequel to Rednecks N' Roses which is in Ellora's Cave's Nibble N' Bits anthology. They are vampire romances - with vampires who are rednecks. I know, the two don't sound all that compatible, but my readers tell me the stories are hilarious.

Judy, I’ve noticed a lot of electronic authors are making a jump into the world of print books with mainstream publishers. Is this something that you are considering for future releases?
Definitely.

Now that I’ve pestered you about your stories and upcoming releases I would love to hear more about your job after the summer months, teaching. I’ve heard teachers are born not made, do you agree?
Probably true. Not everybody can teach. That's proven by all the people who go to college to be teachers and then discover they can't handle it. We had one new teacher in our school quit after three days because he didn't think there'd be so much work involved. There's lots of that, and English teachers correct more papers than anyone. And I make my kids write a lot. Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way to get better at ANYTHING.

When you are in need of some me time away from writing, school and family what are some of your favorite things to do?
Read. It's the best form of escapism there is.

When you think about your ideal summer vacation, what do you see yourself doing?
Going to Ireland.

Are there any plans to leave the classroom behind to add your name to the list of full time authors?
Five more years and I can retire. LOL

As an author with more than a dozen titles under your belt if you sit back and think is there one defining moment that has had an enormous influence on your writing career?
Comments from a judge from a contest I entered. I didn't win, but she said my writing was good.

For readers who would love to know more about you and your work do you have any upcoming chats or appearances scheduled? If so, please let our fans know when and where.
With school starting, I'm pretty limited, especially with two sons competing in high school sports. If a book signing crops up within drivable range, I'll go, but right now I don't have anything scheduled.

Judy thank you for taking the time to give our readers a candid picture into your imaginative world. So our readers can keep informed, where can readers and fans attain additional information about you?
