Bridget Midway Interview
I am delighted to be speaking with Bridget Midway today. Thanks for chatting with us today, Bridget and welcome to FAR!
Thanks, Tammy! It's great to be interviewed on FAR again. I love this site.
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
Since I'm an erotica writer, it would be great to say all of it! *LOL* However only a tiny part of my personality or life experiences make it into my stories. For example in the short story "Chances" through Erotique Press, I did draw from my own relationship with my man who is twenty years older than me, a different race than my own and shorter than my 5'9" height. But just like in the story, we just work. Doesn't make sense to anyone else but us, and that's cool.
Lots of people ask me who am I in my novel Fascination Street. If there's one character I'm most like it's Zora. I'm as open and trusting as she is, but that's as far as I go with the comparisons. I'm not as experimental as she is. *LOL*
What can you tell us about your short story The Lesson that’s out this month in Summer Heat 3 Erotic-ahh Digest from Midnight Showcase?
I wrote the short story "The Lesson" for the BetterSex.com contest in their search for the best erotica writer. For their contest, writers had to create a story around 1 of 3 pictures. So the picture I used for "The Lesson" had a woman in her bra and panties on top of a guy on a couch and he's looking away from her like he's checking out something on TV. In my story I put in a very significant twist. My story didn't make it as a finalist in that contest although it was very close. So I expanded it a bit and sent it to Midnight Showcase. I was thrilled when they accepted it!
Of all things you have accomplished, is there one accomplishment you are most proud of? Every story I write. I can't say just one particular one. It is such an ordeal to create fiction. And the process of writing should be arduous. Writers should expect to wring out every bit of emotion onto their pages and be drained at the end of the process. When I get to the drained part, I'm happy.
How many books have you written, and do you have a personal favorite?
Wow! I have to think about that one. Full-length books, I have 3 published. I have 3 more contracted, 4 more to write, 5 short stories, 5 novellas and more books coming. My friends think I've cloned myself with all of the writing I've done. Honestly, I just feel fortunate that people dig my writing.
My books are like my babies. You can't pick a favorite. They're all special in some unique way. "Adam and E-V-E" is special because it's the very first work of mine that was published. "Chances" is special for the reason I mentioned earlier. Fascination Street is a fave because it's the first book I wrote that I thought about making it into a series with 4 other books in the works. I could go on and on about every one of my books.
If you could meet one of your characters, which one would it be?
Wow, only one? Hmmm, although it would be great to meet any of my characters in my futuristic works, "Adam and E-V-E" and the upcoming C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L, both through Phaze, truly I would want to meet Art Forrest from my full-length novel Fascination Street through Venus Press. Although I did do extensive research into the partner swapping/polyamorous lifestyle, I would still love to hear from this character why he and his wife, Winta, are in this lifestyle and what do they get out of it. I'm sure he would have a great answer.
If you could pick any celebrity to be on the cover of your book, who would it be and why? Haa! Haa! Great question! For anyone who knows me, they know that I draw inspiration from celebrities. As a matter of fact, I used quite a number of their pictures on my Fascination Street website, which you can check out here But since that book is out there, let me pick a book that hasn't been released yet. For my upcoming science fiction erotic romance, C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L, the casting would be easy. For C-A-I-N, it would be pro-wrestler/actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. For A-B-E-L it would be actor Vin Diesel. And for the heroine, Dr. Sonjie Tuumlar it would be Demi Moore. Can you imagine that cover?
Can you give us a peek into your upcoming book C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L?
Sure! C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L is the sequel to my novella, "Adam and E-V-E". In the sequel, the story centers around Dr. Sonjie Tuumlar, the doctor responsible for helping to create the cyborgs needed to help Earth's army. She's starting to have feelings for two male cyborgs, C-A-I-N and A-B-E-L, which has made her reluctant to let them go. Although both men are ready to fight the Earth's war, they also want the good doctor. With this twisted love triangle, someone's bound to get hurt.
What is the one thing you've always wanted to do but never had the courage / opportunity to try?
I've always wanted to skydive but I'm way too much of a chicken to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. But the rush has to be huge.
Can you tell us something about you that makes you unique?
Except for my passion for writing, I can't think of anything that makes me stand out in a crowd, and that's okay. As a writer, I love blending into a crowd. I people watch and as long as I'm not singled out, I can mentally collect data on people.
How do you keep your ideas fresh and imaginative?
Scholars have said repeatedly that there are no new story ideas. Just a spin on the same idea. So that's the way I approach a story I'm going to write. For example, I recently contracted a story with Loose Id called Love My Way. It's a full-length novel about a man who finds a woman through a reality TV show. Sounds done to death, right? Here's the twist. He's a Dominant and he's searching for his next submissive. Now it gets interesting! Readers who liked the ensemble characters in Fascination Street and the BDSM aspects of Corporate Seduction will definitely enjoy this book.
Why do you think erotic fiction is so popular right now?
That's a good question. Readers always want to be surprised and want something different. It goes back to my earlier statement about having the same story type and writers just putting a new spin on it. Erotica is that spin.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us today?
I guess you don't want to know that I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance, huh? Just kidding. Tammy, you asked some really great questions. I can't think of anything you haven't touched on in this interview. The only thing I can think of to say is that I'm still going to keep putting out provocative works that I hope readers will enjoy. And I'm hoping to get more of my work in print and with larger mainstream publishers like Red Sage and Harlequin Spice.
Thank you for taking time to speak with us today, Bridget.
