I am delighted to be speaking with
Dyana Lunaris today. Thanks for chatting with us today
Dyana and welcome to FAR!
To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current release,
Roses Never Fade?
Roses Never Fade is a time travel paranormal about a woman named Rosemary who, in the process of trying to escape her abusive boyfriend finds herself transported to Scotland during the Crusades. After a series of devastating tragedies she must learn that love and bravery can overcome any odds. Along the way she meets a Scottish dark faerie, a Persian prince, a Norman lord, and Scottish twin brothers who help her discover her true power isn't magical at all; it's her courage and her unwillingness to give up.
I've been working on it for 15 years and I'm very excited to finally have it done. I'm also excited to announce that it will be available in print format this November.
Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
I love reading, watching movies and photography. Plus, I have three beautiful children that take up quite a bit of my time. I also enjoy going to concerts, chatting online, and creating book covers.
From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
Music provides the most inspiration for writing. Roses Never Fade was inspired by Journey's Send Her My Love.
What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
My biggest goal in regards to my writing is to make an impact on people's lives. If they cry or laugh out loud because of my writing then I've accomplished my dream. Every life that I touch with my writing makes my life richer.
What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
My publisher and good friend Sarah Tiller told me "Don't be afraid." Those have been the words that have guided my every step. Change is scary and it may keep you from making decisions that could really benefit your life so I try not to let fear make my decisions for me. I think that is really reflected in Rosemary. She learns that she can't let the fear of losing someone keep her from loving them.
I can see from your web site that you design book covers. Is there one that's your favorite?
My most recent cover is always my favorite because I'm constantly learning new things and different techniques but I think the one I'm proudest of is the cover for Ann Cory's new book Egyptian Cotton.
What’s the biggest challenge in designing a book cover?
The biggest challenge in designing book covers is visualizing what the author has in their mind and turning it into a cover with the limited resources of copyright free photos I have. I love what I do though and most of the time it's only about communication.
Can you tell us a little about your upcoming works?
I have a so much in the works right now! The third book in the Midnight Antiques Series, The Birth of Darkness is well on it's way to being written. I'm also working on a series I'm referring to as the Dark Anthologies Series. This series is going to be a hotbed of paranormal erotica taking place in the 1980's. Authors with include Rhiannon Blackmour, Rowena Silvercat, Carolyn Harker, and myself, plus many more. The first book in the series is tentatively titled Death and the Surfer. Dark Anthologies chronicle what happens when supernatural creatures fall in love, included the Devil himself.
What would we find on your bookshelf?
My bookshelves are a mish-mosh of everything from Lady Chatterly's Lover to Silence of the Lambs. My favorite authors are Diana Gabaldon, Dean Koontz, Lynn Kurland, and Laurell K Hamilton.
How did you celebrate selling your first book?
My husband took me out to dinner. With the kids of course.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just want to thank everyone who sent me kind e-mails and reader reviews about Roses Never Fade. You guys are the reason I still write.
