Today I am speaking with
KL Bjork.
Hello
KL, and welcome to Fallen Angels Review. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to speak with us today. How do you like to be addressed?
KL is fine. I’m really glad to be here.
I noticed that you find vampires fascinating. I really enjoy them as well.
Oh yes. I absolutely love the dark, mysterious, alpha vamp. And the ones with the tortured souls just get me every time. I have Christine Feehan to thank for that. LOL Dark Magic was my first romance and first paranormal to read. I fell in love instantly and began to read everything I could get my hands on. Then once I got between books and favorite authors, I began to come up with my own stories. My series at Ocean’s Mist Press was my first published stories and The Elixir series holds a special spot in my heart.
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day, hmm. The week days are the most fun. LOL. I get up around 4:30, get ready for work, then I spend a few moments writing or watching the news before I start cooking breakfast. Usually my two year old little girl decides she wants to get up and help, so we cook breakfast then get everyone else up. I have a four year old little boy too. Mornings are always crazy around my house before we take the kids to daycare and my husband and I rush off to work.
I try to find time on my lunch hour to write a little bit. It’s nice because the office is so quiet. LOL Then once we all get home, another round of craziness starts while we get dinner and baths done. All the while my mind reels with story possibilities. LOL. After all that is done the kids usually go to bed around 7:30 or 8:00, so I clean up and then get my writing stuff out once the house gets quiet again. It’s a wild cycle and thank god my husband is so understanding. He’s usually passed out on the couch while I’m typing away. LOL
Would you like to tell us about
Lost Treasure, I believe it was just released?
Yes. Lost Treasure was just released from Venus Press. It’s my first book with them and I’m very excited about it and working with that group. Lost Treasure is about a female archeologist who has always had strange dreams. Her father was an archaeologist also, but would never allow her to go with him to sites until she got older. Well by that time her dreams had taken a turn and Elena starts to experience a man visiting her through her dreams. He’s mysterious and sexy and he wants her to find a chalice. But Elena just thinks her attraction for him is all just part of the dream and gets involved with one of the other archeologists on her father’s site. Samuel comes across as a nice guy, but there is more to him then beats the eye.
Hauyna is an ancient shaman whose been cursed into the Chalice he wants Elena to find, so it’s up to her to locate it and release him and figure out what Samuel is up to.
It’s funny how I came up with this story. I was watching an episode of Weird Travels on the Discovery Channel talking about Machu Picchu and my mind just starting working. I did a little bit of research and found the name Hauyna from that time and decided to use it. I later found out that there is also a peak that overlooks Machu Picchu named Huayna Picchu. It’s crazy how story ideas just suddenly form in my head. I love it! LOL
Has being published changed your life in any way?
Yes. I think there is a lot more stress. LOL I’m worried about finding time to promote and trying to reach my word count goal for the week, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. This is an absolute dream come true for me.
What does your working space look like? Are you an organized person?
Yes, I’m pretty organized as long as one of my children doesn’t run off with my notebooks. LOL I try to keep things in specific places and I have one notebook that is almost like an extension of myself. I hardly leave home without it.
I use a laptop, so pretty much my desk is my lap and I can work anywhere. It’s great.
Where do you get the most inspiration for your writing?
Probably from the science channel, magazines or songs. Then again, it could come from conversations with friends. My friends get a little aggravated sometimes when I tell them to hold on for a sec while I write this down.
Do you have any special routine to help you get in the mood to write?
Not really. As long as I have a quiet moment, I read back a few pages of what I wrote then start. Oh and I have to have a coke and something to snack on.
What is your favorite part of a book to write, the beginning, the middle or the dramatic ending?
I have to say the beginning. I love starting something fresh and new. The ending is next because I love to sit back and sigh after I write the words The End. It feels so wonderful to see those words and to know you’ve completed something.
What do you think is the biggest false impression about being an author?
That it’s easy. When I first started I had absolutely no idea how consuming it is to get a story out there. I think a lot of people would be surprised, but thankfully it is something we (authors) love to do. All the hard stuff is worth it to see your name on the cover of a book and then seeing it released.
Is there a habit that you know you will never change?
Drinking coke and reading. Those are the two things I don’t think I’d ever give up. Now after I’ve gotten my palm pilot I can hide how many books I actually own. It’s scary. LOL
What were you doing when you got the call that your story was accepted?
Vampire Christmas was my first story accepted and I was at work when I opened up my email and saw the new message from Noemi at Ocean’s Mist. I called one of my co-workers to come over and read it for me. LOL I couldn’t even look at it, because I was so worried. When she turned around with a smile, I think the whole floor heard my scream. It was great! I’ll never forget that moment. I didn’t realize how hard my heart could beat against my chest.
I think you website is very intriguing. Do you have another website, other than,
www.klbjork.com that you would like to share with us?
Yes I do. I have a myspace site for all those on there and it is www.myspace.com/author_klbjork and have a yahoo group too. The address for that one is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/klbjork_books Everyone is welcome and it’s not a high volume group.
What is your favorite spot to travel?
I would love to go to Scotland and see the castles. That is such a magical place and I just want to be a part of it.
What is your all time favorite food or dessert?
My favorite food is steak soft tacos. We have a place here called Mexico Chiquito that is just wonderful. I have to eat there at least once a week. They are yummy.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Yes. I love hearing comments from readers. There is a place on my website where they can drop a quick hello. And if any reader sends me a comment about one of my books they have a chance to win a gift certificate or free download of their choice from one of the sites I’m published on (Ocean’s Mist Press, Silk’s Vault or Venus Press).
Thank you FAR for such a wonderful interview. I had a great time and look forward to searching your site for great books!
Again, thank you very much,
KL for taking time to speak with us today. I wish you the best in all your great works and look forward to more delights in the future.
