Laura Baumbach Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome Ms. Laura Baumbach. We would like to ask you some questions so our audience can get to know you a little bit better

When did you first start writing and what keeps you motivated to write?
I started writing when I became housebound by the sudden appearance of my youngest child meant I have to give up my job. I used it as a means to keep in touch with other adults and to have people to talk with while still being there for my new baby. I started writing fanfiction then the urge to write my own characters blossomed and I haven’t stopped yet. I’m someone who does best under pressure so having deadlines motives me.

From what do you derive most of your inspiration to write?
MEN! I love men. I love romance. I love sensual characters and sexy situations. And then I love Men.

Do you feel as if your characters take over and write their own stories? If so, who do you feel is you’re most memorable character?
Definitely. They always take over, sometimes it’s characters that were supposed to be minor and they demand more page time and the story goes off in a new direction then. Most memorable? I don’t really know. You’ll have to ask my readers!

What drew you to enter the m/m genre?
I wrote slash fanfcition for a vampire film I gave medical advice to. When it was published, I was asked to write some original fiction next. Since I love men, think two sexy loving men together is hot and beautiful, I tried my hand at writing M/M erotic romance. It seems by the response that there are a lot of readers out there that feel the same way as I do.

How do you keep each of your books so fresh and alive?
I have a twisted imagination. LOL! I love all kinds of books, adventures, romance, spy thriller, period pieces, sci-fi, paranormal—I just can’t stay in one.

Where do you get your ideas from?
They just pop into my head. Sometimes a word or phrase will spark an image and then a story surrounds that imagine and characters walk into the story and then I’m off and running with it. It’s kind of indefinable.

What is your most favorite part of a book to write?
The first sex scene. It’s the magic moment for the couple and it’s important that it be just right. It defines the relationship a lot of the time.

For those of us who have followed the problems you have had with RT, could you tell us how that is progressing?
RT still refuses to review M/M erotic romances, even with the purchase of a very expensive ad, though it is an accepted RWA genre and very popular with readers. Luckily they aren’t the only romance review voice out there.

Affaire de Coeur, another well-established romance review magazine that has been around for 26 years has opened their doors to M/M romances recently and I’m delighted to say my books have been submitted to them and accepted for review. AdC knows the current romance readership well.

How has being published changed your life, if at all?
Not by much, actually. I’m very new and unknown for the most part.

Any advice for aspiring authors.
Just do what you love and work hard at it. Write every chance you get and submit to publishers. It’s not that hard or scary. Publishers need writers as much as writers need publishers. Go for it and keep trying until you success.

I for one have followed your stories since I read “A Bit of Rough”. The buzz is that its sequel “Roughhousing” is due to be released early next year. Can you give us some inside information? I for one can’t wait to get my hands of this book! I feel in love with Jamie and Bram long ago.
Roughhousing takes up where A Bit of Rough left off. It follows the growing relationship between architect James Justin and construction company owner Abraham Lord. James is more introverted and while out, he takes great pains to carefully suppress outward appearances of being gay. Bram is open and unrestricted by strangers’ disapproval. They both have needs and desires that the other meets. They compliment each other, but they have rough spots to get over, too. James needs to be more trusting and open with Bram and Bram has to learn to not be as controlling as he is. The sequel explores a bit more of their lives and fears and desires while letting readers see into their loving relationship and hot sexual nights. They have fights, they make up, they have family interference and new friends and life just goes on.

If you had one question that you would like to ask those of us who love to read your books what would it be?
Do I meet your expectations when you pick up one of my works?

What is your idea of a perfect relationship and does this influence your writing?
LOL! No relationship is perfect. It would be boring and stale before the end of a year. It’s flaws and personality differences and POV twists that make relationships exciting and adventurous and desirable. Perfect never comes into the equation for me.

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?
Just a heartfelt thank you for reading my work. I appreciate each and every reader out there and want you to know I’m working to bring as much quality M/M fiction to you as you can stand to read.

I wish to say thank you to Ms. Baumbach for spending the time to answer our questions and give us some insight about herself and her books. I for one look forward to her upcoming release of “Roughhousing” and wish Ms. Baumbach all the luck in the world with her writing.
