Ann Cory Interview

Today I am speaking with Ann Cory.

Hello Ann! Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us. The readers would love to hear something about Ann.
I simply love to tell stories and share them with others. Characters, plots, settings, words…they are always going through my mind. My husband and son are my biggest fans and supporters, so it makes what I do even more special and exciting.

I visited your website and it is most impressive. You are a very gifted writer, Ann.
Blushes…thank you. My lovely web maven Deena Warner created the website for me.

What is a day like with Ann Cory?
My days tend to be very busy, productive, and for the most part much too short for my liking. I am usually up early and get my husband and son out the door so I can be alone with the muse. From dinnertime until about 10pm it’s family time. I often stay up late to do more writing, edits, or read. Weekends I try and take time off, unless I’m really in a zone with a story I’m working on. Somewhere in there I do housework.

Did you have fun writing these books?
Very much so! They are all a lot of fun and wonderful escapes.

What motivates you?
The love of the written word motivates me as well as my imagination. I think it’s the most special gift one can have. I always have an idea for a story running through my mind. My husband has stopped asking me what I’m thinking about. Now he says “You’re thinking up another story, aren’t you?” and I have to laugh because 99% of the time, I am.

Do you have a favorite genre when you are composing?
Paranormal/vampires/shape-shifters are my favorite! I love the worlds you can create.

Was your lifelong ambition to be a writer?
Yes, though I didn’t know to what extent. Since I was a little girl I’ve written books. I took creative writing, excelled in English, and was on the staff of both the school paper and the yearbook in high school.

Do you have a hectic schedule that prohibits you from writing more than you would like?
I am fortunate that my husband supports my writing, which allows me to stay at home and be a full-time writer. The problem is, I find that I still don’t have enough time to write.

What is Ann’s most sexual indulgence?
Candle light and a glass of wine will get me right into a romantic mood.

Is there any special music you listen to when composing?
Usually I prefer peace and quiet, but if I am writing a story that has a specific culture to it, I will listen to music that goes along with it. For instance, when I wrote Mask of the Matador I listened to some beautiful Spanish guitar music. If my mind is cluttered with too many thoughts I will put on Celtic music or something soft like Enya or Loreena McKennitt. Otherwise music can distract me.

Who is your favorite author?
I have many favorites, but currently I’m really getting into Christine Feehan’s books.

What plans for writing do you have for the future?
I’d like to continue writing everything from short stories to novels, secure an agent, and attend conventions.

Is there a favorite part of writing that you enjoy?
I love coming up with new characters. From their names to personalities, their flaws to their quirks.

Do you get along well with your publisher and editors?
Yes, very much! I try and always be professional with a good sense of humor.

Have you ever written a screenplay?
No, but someday I’d like to.

Have you ever had Writers Block? I tend to have too many ideas to have writers block.
I haven’t had writer’s block happen to me yet, but I get burnout from time to time. When that happens I force myself to stay away from the computer for a couple days. I have about 25 works in progress going on all at once, so it can get overwhelming.

For Fun: Who is your favorite actor and actress? If you had the chance to live on a deserted island for one month or out in the open wilderness like the western days, which would you choose?
Ah, my favorite actresses are Drew Barrymore and Kate Winslet. My favorite actor is Johnny Depp. If I were stranded I’d be content with Johnny Depp, dancing around a fire drinking lots of rum!!!
