Jessica Lilly Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome new author Jessica Lilly. Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions here. I'd like to start by asking you a few questions about yourself.

Tell your fans something about you they would never guess.
I am an avid fan of NFL and College Football. This comes in quite handy living in a house full of testosterone. I will admit I am the one the neighbors hear yelling and cheering or might notice dancing around the living room in a touchdown dance all my own.

Can you describe yourself in three sentences or less?
No probably not....I will give it a shot though....I like to think that I am friendly, easy-going, and genuine in my desire to help other people. I love the outdoors: whether we are camping, just driving around the country, being at the lake, or visiting zoos (I have been accused of being a Zoo Junkie).

No wait....describe me....well I am....LOL

You have a full time job, review, have four boys (plus whatever friends they drag home), and write? How?
I have been cursed with the ability to multi-task. LOL Actually with three boys that are within a year of each other, my life was filled with chaos and craziness for so many years while they were small that it is difficult to slow down now. Is it bad to say that I think I have a serious problem focusing on only one thing.

Can you take us through a day in your life?
Oh my, are you sitting down for this.....I get up by 5am every morning to see my hubby off to work...force four boys to get out of bed for school...squeeze into work with five minutes to spare and spend eight hours coordinating services for clients between the ages of 14 - 21 to job shadow, complete volunteer work, complete their GED, locate employment, and improve their self-esteem...round kiddos back up and head home...finish dinner....park myself in front of the computer to read stories for either pre-screening or reviewing purposes, for fun, and whip out a couple of hours of writing.

At that point, I crash into bed for about 6 hours of sleep so I can do it all again the next day. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

How do you write? Seat of the pants or outlines? Do you write to music?
I am a little of both. I think of an idea from beginning to end that is very vague. Then I sit at my computer and write never really knowing (until I start typing) the journey that I will take to get from each thought to the next of my idea. Needless to say, it leaves lots of room for changes, but unfortunately sometimes it leaves lots of room for changes. That can be both a blessing and a pitfall. I tend to write in either total silence or with the television on.

Can you tell us about your debut novel, Almost a Blind Date?
Melanie's friend Sarah believes Melanie needs a push to get back into the dating world. So with the assistance of her husband, they pair Melanie up on a blind date. Since Sarah is her friend, she does at least agree to have her and her husband tag along as a double date. When Melanie notices a gym, she decides she is going to finally join one. Only when she meets the owner, Melanie isn't sure she wants to go everyday to exercise or drool over the owner.

To find out if her gym membership comes with a side of the owner or if the blind date introduces her to the man of her dreams....you will have to read the story.

What inspired you to write?
I read so many books that thoughts of different characters started showing up in my head. I thought while why not try to write a short story and see how it turns out. I love to read so a next step to me seemed to be writing one.

My inspiration to actually submit a story....my younger sister telling me I could do. Her faith in me and my short story - and the constant emails asking if I sent it in yet.

How did you feel when you found out that 4 Girls Publishing was interested in your book?
Too be honest, I was shocked. I was checking my emails before going out of town for the weekend and there it was....an email saying we have picked your book up. I couldn't decide if I wanted to cry, shout for joy, or pass out. It is quite an exhilarating experience.

If that moment was not overwhelming, this same first short story was released this very week and seeing it online with the magical button saying buy book was amazing. I couldn't resist - I had to click the button and buy my very own copy. LOL

Of all things you have accomplished, is there one accomplishment you are most proud of?
That would have to be my family. Married straight out of high school and blessed with four very unique sons - these five men shower me with love and devotion on a daily basis.

Where would you like to see yourself as an author in five years?
I would like to have series that evolve into additional series, at least one series or book readers say is worth remembering, the ability to walk into a bookstore and see my work on the shelf, and my children growing up seeing their mom doing something that was a dream to her and doing it so that they in turn have the desire to follow their dreams too.

Those are some big goals I have, when I would actually be happy if the stories were still coming to me and readers were still wanting to buy them.

I love your website, can you tell us the inspiration behind it?
That is an interesting question. My new website - www.jessicalilly.com - is still a work in progress. I have been fortunate enough to work with J&J Design though - they are wonderful at taking my thoughts and creating something beautiful. I think of colors that I like, buttons that I want to see, and J&J Design turns them into my website.

Do you have anything else in the works right now? Can you tell us about it?
I have recently completed a contemporary romance story called Possible Reunion. This story follows Maddie and Justin as they return to their 15 year High School Reunion. They have a history together. But can they find a future together too? Possible Reunion has been submitted to Four Girls Publishing.

I am starting a series that is tentatively being called The Elite Guardians. It will be a futuristic romance series in which a Guardmen has been summoned to locate and bring home the King's daughter. She is on the run from an evil man, one she was suppose to marry. I am hoping to have at least 3 if not 4 in this series. But have only recently started book one.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Take the chance and send your submissions in. Keep trying. My debut story is not the first one I started and I definitely don't have a degree in writing.

My best suggestion would be.....read, read, read....this is what has helped me the most. I read stories and find things that I like and dislike. Reading all of the books that I do has helped me become comfortable with trying to write a story.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I am very honored to have the opportunity to be interviewed by Fallen Angel Reviews. I hope that readers will stop by my website - www.jessicalilly.com - and take a look at my debut short story. I would love to hear from readers whether they liked it or not as that is a wonderful tool to assistance me in improving my work.

Serena, I want to thank you for taking the time to chat with me about my story, website, and ideas. It means alot to me. Thank you.
