Today I have the pleasure of speaking with
Andrew Miller and
Patti Rebmann who write as
AP Miller. Thanks for being here today and welcome to FAR!
AP: You are very welcome Tammy!
First off, I have to ask… how hard is it writing with a partner?
Patti: I don’t find it difficult at all. Andrew and I feed into each other while we write which is s good thing. We also “Role Play” our chapters through MSN IM. When we write together, we each take a chapter like we did in Management Training and Librarians Don’t Get Married.
Andrew: It’s actually easier for me with Patti than without. By working out a chapter with Patti before I actually write it, it helps me to fight past a writers block. After all, I’ve already figured out the story; I just need to work on the prose.
Do you ever disagree on what happens next in a story?
Patti: Never. We do have some disagreements as far as names for our characters but never do we argue over the basis of the story plot. Andrew is very creative and can come up with the ideas faster than I can.
Andrew: Constantly. *laughs mischievously* We’re both very creative, so there’s bound to be conflict. But because we love and respect each other, we listen and discuss… and even when I disagree with her suggestion, it often alters my own line of thought into a final product far better than I would have come up with alone.
How long have you been writing together?
Patti: Over a year.
Andrew: What she said.
I noticed that
Patti’s the senior editor for Suite magazine and
Andrew is a feature writer. Can you tell us more about this magazine and how you both got started with it?
Patti: Hmm…I can tell you that SUITE is an incredible magazine. It is geared towards women between the ages of 35 to 50. I call it the fun, flirty and classy magazine for the Intelligent woman. Our articles are well written by some of the top published authors. We don’t write about smut, nor do we male bash. Our male models are hand picked by our own Tamara McHatton, CEO of SUITE. She is also the magazines photographer. The men we showcase are down to earth and sometimes shy. We have articles, book reviews, TV reviews for everyone. We also review books and publish excerpts from all authors.
I began with SUITE almost a year ago as a contributing writer for the SUITE Sensations column. Shortly after that, I moved up into the Senior Editor position. Andrew joined us a few months later with his own column on Health and Fitness.
Andrew: I was in bed with Patti and she asked me if I wanted to do a column.
Could you please tell us readers about your upcoming book
Dante’s Inferno that is coming out soon from Silks Vault?
Patti: OOOO..This has to be my favorite. As a young child, Dante is given a locket from his grandmother. Inside there is a photo of a beautiful woman. Dante knows this woman is his destiny and he follows his instincts to the ends of the earth to find her. When he does, that’s when the sparks fly. Elsbeth was raised by nuns and as far as she knew, Boys were the devils spawn. Dante changes all that. It is a steamy erotic story that we hope our readers will fall in love with.
The Lone Huntress is a science fiction, erotic, romance that you currently have out with Heatwave Romance. Could you tell us more about it?
Andrew: The setting is the distant future, in an intergalactic Federation. Lisa is a bounty hunter who fights pirates, as well as aliens, terrorists, and anyone else who would hurt innocents, as she was hurt. She is also extremely beautiful, in an Amazonian sense, but she believes herself to in fact be hideously ugly. There’s a lot of erotic content, but there’s an emphasis on storyline - several of the sex scenes end in tears, for a variety of emotional reasons.
In addition, there’re plenty of subplots to tickle your intellectual fancies as well, from her gun hand (complete with a “freeze gun” more commonly used by futuristic EMTs than combat forces), to Lisa’s unpowered atmospheric reentry on a preprogrammed flight path (which sets the courage of our own astronauts in stark relief). And even a fair bit of comedy - such as Gunther Von Richtoven, head of the Federation Intelligence Agency, known and feared as the infamous Pink Baron…
What is your favorite type of genre to write?
Patti: I rather like Paranormal and Historical
Andrew: Science Fiction and Fantasy
How many hours a day do you spend writing?
Patti: LOL! I should be writing all day long, but I can honestly say that I do most of my best writing in the wee hours of the morning. I would have to say at least two to three hours a day when I can. But when I am on a roll, I write all day.
Andrew: As much as I can. The hard part is getting into a mental/emotional state where I can do my writing… *sighs wistfully*
What is your favorite part of a book to write?
Patti: I love writing sexual tension…the more I can tease my readers the better.
Andrew: the happy ending. After writing about the pain and suffering of my characters, it makes me feel good to give them that ending.
Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
Patti: right now, I am working on a vampire comedy. My vampire is on Prozac, his love interest is a Siamese twin connected by the hip whose sister is a bitch, and his sidekick Ruinfeld is Dyslexic.
I am also working on a Werewolf. An attorney working for the mob who is injected with the serum that will turn him into an animal. He searches to find a cure after killing the Doctor with the only known cure that injected him. He meets a pathologist in a local college who makes every attempt to find a cure for him before the next full moon, but she has a secret of her own.
I am also working on Twisted Fairy Tales….a parody of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs erotica style and we are working on a children’s book…“Elliot Gets Adopted”
Andrew: I’m focused on a fantasy novel that satirizes many of the clichés of fantasy books, movies, and video games. The hero is a hero who appears in accordance with an ancient prophecy… but he refuses to systematically slaughter the assorted nonhuman races, the orcs, werewolves, etc. Most of his quest is with a sexy female werewolf at his side, sharing his pains… and his bed. And not one of his “legendary weapons” is a phallic shaped double edged sword.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
AP: Thank you to all our readers. Without you, we would never be…
Thank you both so much for taking the time to answer our questions today.
AP: You are welcome!
