I am delighted to be speaking with
Tierney Linn today. Thanks for chatting with us today
Tierney and welcome to FAR!
When did you start writing erotic romances? How long did it take you to get published?
I started writing erotic romances about a year ago, but I've been writing romance for three. My first erotica sale was Sinful Touch, though it wasn't my first release. That honor went to Sweet Deception, part of a New Year's anthology.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
I think I was most surprised by how quickly I became involved in each of my characters lives as they took shape. I wanted them all to have happy endings, but sadly that's not always what's best for the plot.
Could you tell readers a little bit about your current release,
Sinful Touch?
This is probably my favorite release. I work for the military, which makes my Captain Roark Craig that much more alive.
Navy Commanding Officer, Captain Roark Craig is not happy about having to work with psychic, Audra Grayson on a covert anti-terrorism project. Especially when he finds out that with a simple touch she’ll know all his government secrets. Problem is -- Roark wants her hands all over him and he wants it bad. When Audra learns of his secret passion for her, she uses all her special gifts to seduce him.
When a terrorist group threatens national security and Aurdra’s life, Roark does what any fine Naval Officer would do -- he orders himself her personal bodyguard. Even with all his training and experience, he is unprepared for their explosive lust or her sinful touch.
In your opinion, what are the three most essential ingredients of an excellent romance novel?
Good character development, heat and connection between the hero and heroine and a satisfying ending. If I've read a book and then put it on my shelf to read again, it has all those elements.
Almost every author at some point or another suffers from writer's block. Have you ever had that problem? How do you deal with it?
Yes, actually I suffered writer's block earlier this year. I worried about not writing and the more I worried, the more I didn't write. Finally I decided to schedule 10 minutes a day to write a paragraph. Good or bad, I wrote each day. What a struggle! Finally, I was over the hump, but man, was it really hard to get back in the groove.
Who has influenced you the most in terms of developing your personal writing?
My critique group. They're multi-published with big publishers so they encourage me to reach higher and better.
How did you celebrate selling your first book?
I called my brother, John, cracked open a bottle of champagne and ate chocolate covered strawberries till I got a stomachache.
Can you tell us a little about your upcoming release,
At His Mercy?
This is the first in a series of three.
Ainsley St. Clair is outraged when her half-brother bets her in a poker game and loses! What's worse, he leaves her stranded and alone in a foreign country with the stranger. With no hopes of rescue, Ainsley must use her wits to gain the upper hand. Unfortunately, her captor has his own plans. Instead of fear and anger, Ainsley feels the sexual tension and is immediately drawn to Jace. Was being held captive really such a bad thing?
CIA agent Jace Sheridan's only job is to infiltrate the ring of flesh traders kidnapping American women. When he finds himself drawn into a poker game with one of the key members of the ring, he'll do anything to use the opportunity to meet the head of the operation, even if it means agreeing to take the man's sister as collateral in a poker game.
Lust and passion erupt between the two, but when Jace betrays her and uses her as bait to catch a criminal, will she ever put her heart at his mercy again?
What can you tell us about the two remaining books in this series?
I'm working on the second in the series. It has no title at this time, but it's about Seth Burke, a character from At His Mercy. Seth's story is about returning home to an old girlfriend and a haunted house. The third is about Damien Hawk, also from At His Mercy. This novella is only in the plotting stages so what I tell you today mostly likely won't be what you'll see in print!
What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That we make millions of dollars! Not true. Not yet anyway!
Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Oh, my imagination and my travels. One time I saw a man leaning against the wall in an airport in Costa Rica. He was dark and dangerous, so I wrote a novella about him. He's the hero in, At His Mercy.
We all have one, so tell us yours. What is your favorite comfort food?
Boy are you right. Pizza!
Why do you think erotic romance is so popular right now?
Women work hard from the minute they get up until they close their eyes. They worry, they take care of families, tackle jobs, and sometimes it really nice to just be entertained. There isn't any thought involved. No trying to figure out "who done it” or getting your heart all twisted because your favorite character just got killed off. It's simply guided imagery into someone else’s fantasy. Not to mention, erotica can be a great "how to" guide.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I take a notebook with me everywhere and if I'm sitting or waiting, I'll write the next line or paragraph in my story. At the end of the day, I may have a whole page or two. That and I like to wear a baseball hat when I write.
Any particular reason why you like to wear a hat?
I wear a baseball hat because I was wearing one when the day I finished the first book I sold. I'm hoping that if I keep wearing a baseball hat when I write, I'll keep selling. Not to worry though, I don't wear the same one every day!
Is there anything else you would like to add today?
Just a big thank you for the opportunity to tell you about my books. This was really fun!
