BA Tortuga Interview

Today I am speaking with BA Tortuga.

Hi BA! And welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is a pleasure having you with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to answer some questions for us. The readers would love to hear something about BA Tortuga.
Hey there! Thanks for having me!

Would you like for us to call you BA, or is there another name you would prefer to go by?
Oh, darlin', compared to some things I've found myself called over the years, BA works just fine, thanks.

BA, I read A Cowboy for Sara, and really liked it. I see you have quite a few works released. Why don’t we open the floor by telling the readers about BA?
Well, thank you. I'm one of those writers who tend to write a little bit of everything - from cowboys to Victorians, traditional romance to alternative lifestyle pairings. My first full-length novel was Stress Relief, published by Torquere Press, from there I've published twelve more novels, as well as having stories in a number of anthologies.

I love the job of writing - from the freedom to the characters to the getting to know my fans. The entire process is fascinating.

Would you like to share with the readers what your typical day consists of after you get out of bed?
*grins* Surely. I have dogs, so the first thing I do involves opening back doors, morning feedings, fresh water, scritches and snuggles.

Then I usually settle in with my coffee and email - I tell you what, some days? The email eats the entire morning.

Other days, the coffee does! *winks*

I work on editing and marketing in the afternoon and then writing in the early evening through to bedtime.

Of course, that includes dog walking, errands, phone calls, crossword puzzles, reading, more doggie scritches.

What would you classify as your favorite part of a book to write?
Beginnings. I *love* beginnings of relationships, of stories, of novels, of dreams.

Tell your fans something about you they would never guess.
I hate having my feet touched.

Of all things you have accomplished, is there one accomplishment you are most proud of?
I'm most proud of moving beyond being a 'wanter' and becoming a 'doer'. You know, instead of 'I want to write,' I write and instead of 'I want my dreams to come true,' my dreams come true.

If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
Oh. In the dressing rooms of a PBR (professional bull riding) event. Three words - tiny. cowboy. butts.

From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
Life. What I write about it all around me, all the time. I just pay attention.

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing? Perhaps a hobby that you really enjoy.
I cook. I *love* to cook, to research recipes, to plan a menu. To eat. I'm a huge fan. I also am an avid country music and rodeo follower - if there's a rodeo close by, you'll find me there cheering the boys on.

Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
Outlining requires way more forethought than I'm capable of. *laughs* I just write and then fix errors in the rewrites.

Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
Oh, lord yes. I can't tell you the number of folks that showed up in a dream and demanded a scene. Now. NOWNOWNOW. They chatter until they get what they want.

It's funny - some characters just want enough to be *real*, they'll never be more than a few scribbles on the page. Others? Novels and novels and novels.

Has being published changed your life any?
Not appreciably. I have more respect for the work of writing than I did before, but the joy of the work is still why I'm in the business.

Who would you like to pen a book with, living or dead?
Louis L'Amour

Where do you see yourself in three years from now?
Writing. Walking my dogs. Writing. Complaining about crow's feet. *winks*

Do you have a website other than www.batortuga.com that you would like to share with your readers?
You can find my blog at http://batortuga.livejournal.com

For Fun: What is your secret indulgence?
Midnight pancakes and bacon at IHOP with a good friend.
