Today I am speaking with
Lori Libby.
Hi
Lori! Good morning and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is wonderful to have you with us. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions. The readers would love to hear something about
Lori Libby.
Lori, why not begin by telling us something about yourself and your romantic suspense book,
Now and Forever with Wings.
I’m married to the best man in the world, have two wonderful children, and during the day I teach 7th grade math. In the wee hours of the morning, nights and weekends, I let the muse run and write.
Now and Forever was a challenge to myself. I’ve always been an avid reader. For me it was a natural extension of this to write. I wrote Now and Forever to see if I could actually write a full-length story. Once I had it finished, I wondered if I could get it published. I learned a lot through the process, I’m still learning.
Lori, are there other works in the process?
My second book, Hunter’s Arrow, received a Recommended Read from Fallen Angels. Currently I’m working on three other books about these shape shifters.
What would you say is your favorite genre to compose?
My favorite genre is suspense. Hunter’s Arrow may be a paranormal, but there is also a serial killer to track down. Now and Forever is about a woman who ordinarily allows life to happen to her until a stalker changes everything.
When you are choosing your genre, who decides, you or your characters?
My characters always decide how the story will go. I know their names and what they are like. I know where I want end the story; the rest comes from the characters. I have had many great surprises and twists because I listened to what they say.
What are your feelings on Internet publishing?
I love Internet publishing. I love the variety of the books out there, the wide range of plots and the non-cookie cutter formula’s that most traditional publishers rely on. I also love having the book in my hands immediately. I can start reading right away.
In your writings, is there a particular character that is close to your heart?
Becca from Now and Forever. She deals with life as it comes. She has a son whom she is trying to raise on her own. She works hard to make their life better when someone sends flowers. Each time, the attached note becomes more ominous and threatening.
Her boyfriend insists she go to the police and her life spins off in directions she couldn’t fathom. She decides to take control. She decides to stand up, to defend herself and those she loves.
She reminds me that no matter the struggles I face, I can do anything I set my mind to.
While writing, how does the story develop for you? Do you go from start to finish or create scenes as they come to you?
I start with characters and a situation. Now and Forever came from a story starter I gave as an assignment to my middle school class.
Did you always dream of becoming a writer?
I’ve always been a reader. I used to read five books at a time. You know, read a chapter then pick up the next book read a chapter. I started writing in junior high. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but in school, I used to write instead of take notes.
Is there any specialty you look for in the perfect man?
I married the perfect man sixteen years ago this month. He will give you the shirt off his back if he thinks you need it. He’s smart and passionate about life and making things better for his family. I don’t know what I would do without my rock, my foundation.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you,
Lori?
I have no idea. I get up at 3 AM every morning. I get a couple of hours to write before rousting the family and heading off to my seventh graders and life’s other challenges.
If you had the opportunity to change something in the past, would you go back in time and change things differently? And if so, what year do you think you would change for the better?
I don’t think I’d change anything. Everything that has happened to me has helped me become the person I am today. I’m comfortable with who I am and where I see my life going.
Would I go back in time with the loftier goal to kill Hitler or something? No. Everything happens for a reason and to mess with events, changes the outcome, which may be far worse.
Do you have a habit that you know you will never change? A pet peeve, perhaps?
I paid for college working fast food jobs. Some people are wonderful at those jobs. I’m not. I don’t have patience for rude adults who think they are better than others.
For Fun: Nice warm soothing bubble baths or hot showers?
Definitely hot showers with the massaging showerhead my husband bought me for Mother’s Day!
Do you have another website other than,
www.lorilibby.com that you would like to share with your readers?
I have a Blog, but there is a link to that from my website. Now that school is almost over for the summer, I’m going to be more diligent about writing on the Writer’s Block.
