Mae Powers Interview

Today I am speaking with Mae Powers.

Hi Mae! Welcome Ms. Powers to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is great to have you with us today. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to visit with us. The readers would love to hear something about Mae Powers.

Mae, allow me to thank you personally for taking time to join us. You have written so many incredible stories that really leave a lasting impression. I find them hard to put down and am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one. And congrats on Sinful Sundaes being nominated for CAPA.

Why don’t you begin today by telling everyone about Mae Powers and the stories she loves the best writing?
First, thank you Linda and FAR for the interview. You all have such a wonderful site and do your best to help the authors. Now about me, well I have quite a few interests, some which are obvious like my writing, so I'll say a few words about that. I write cross genre romances (of course I write sf, horror, fantasy too, but not published a lot there yet), and a lot of mine are paranormal, sci-fi/futuristic and fantasy romances. I like to put a twist or something a little different in all my stories. At least I try to. I like writing multi-ethnic and multi-paranormal quite a bit.

When did you first decide to take "pen in hand" and seek a publisher?
Well I've been writing for over 20 years, but mostly published since early 2005. I'm currently with 5 publishers now and hoping Kensington will pick up a collection of my shorts called Encountered.

I hear you have some upcoming projects, care to share with us?
I have a miniology coming out with Midnight Showcase which is more erotica than a romance story, but does have romantic elements in it, and it will open their new Midnight Romp line, coming out in April 2006. My novel The Aldairian Ecstasy: Forbidden Desires, will be out around mid-March, also at www.midnightshowcase.com. With www.silksvault.com I am starting a new series called HAREM. It will feature several action/adventure/erotic-romance romps from me and several other authors. I've also just contracted a short called Tasty Temptations with Venus Press. It's an out of this world m/m/f story with a very different twist.

How has being published changed your life, if at all?
I've been making more of my dreams come true, made a lot of friends and put joy in a lot of readers' minds. It doesn't get better than that. I stay busy that's for sure.

What does your working space look like? Are you an organized person?
Organized with clutter. I have a schedule I keep handy that helps me keep my writing in perspective. I refer to it a lot.

From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
My mind, TV, movies, a word, my family, friends, humor, many things.

Do you have any special routine to help you get in the mood to write?
I procrastinate a lot, then tell my self to get off my duff and do something. I plan out some stories and do a few outlines, a lot of the time I free write too.

What is your favorite part of a book to write?
All of it. The middle is the most challenging though. I love a good opening and a satisfactory ending.

What is the biggest false impression about being an author?
Not all authors have their heads in the clouds of glitz and glamour. It would be nice, but don't happen always all at once or over night. That, and people thinking you only write in one line. Lots of romance authors write other things. They just may not have them all out yet.

What about the one habit you have that you know you’ll never change?
I'm not telling. :-)

Every writer dreams about receiving “the call”. What were you doing when yours came in? Did you do anything special to celebrate?
Well it was an ecall/mail. lol.

I was getting ready to shut down for the day and decided to check email one more time. Boom there it was.

What is your idea of the perfect man?
Is there one unless I write about him? LOL. There are a lot of good ones out there, but they are either on a soap opera, in a book, or taken. Ok, mix Chakotay with Worf(Robert Beltran and Michael Dorn), throw in a little Tom Selleck and you've got a general idea of my ideal man.

Do you have a website other than www.maepowers.com that you would like to share with your readers? I have to tell you that the second website, I love the blue satin backdrop. Really grabs!
Thanks, I put the site together myself. www.maepowers.com is pretty much my permanent site. I have a blog at blogspot, www.maepowers.blogspot.com, but that's it for now. I'll be adding some new things to the www.midnightshowcase.com site and mine for the Spellfire Series.

Is there anything else that you would like to divulge to our readers?
Well I can tell you that I've got some novellas lined up to write and they are for the Spellfire Series, but a Darker Side of Spellfire, plus there are new story lines going to be thrown in soon. Lots of surprises there. But I won't tell.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about Mae Powers?
I also write humor and poetry, but haven't in a few years. I also want to write for the cinema/film and maybe TV. We'll see.

Just for Fun: Your favorite food? Your favorite all time movie? Your favorite fantasy in life? You are in the middle of a tropical island and find yourself alone. You are given one wish to have anyone join you, who would you choose?
Gosh, lots of favorite movies, but a few are: Labyrinth, Galaxy Quest, Wizard of Oz. Love barbeque and sauces. My favorite Fantasy, to the moon baby.

Thank you again Far & Linda, for interviewing me. Everyone is welcome to drop me a line and let me know how they liked my stories or even if they didn't, or if there is something you'd like to see me write, holler. Have a beautiful life. Mae
