Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome the multi published author
Carys Weldon. She is the author of over ten books at eXtasy Books. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
What is a typical day like for you?
I get up between 6-7 and spend as much time on the computer as I can. Usually until my back or shoulders give out. Sometimes I go to 11 p.m.—I write a lot. And now I have a blog at http://www.blogger.com/ (just search for Carys Weldon) so that's taking up time, too.
When did you decide to take "pen in hand" and write with the intent to publish?
3-4 years ago. My husband insisted. He bought the computer and said "Write something sexy for me." And the rest, shall we say, is history.
You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
Computer/internet. Massager. Guess I need a working electrical outlet. Is that too much information?
What would we find on your bookshelf? What do you do to relax?
You'd see a big variety. I read adult romance, of course--on all levels. Plus, I love fantasy/sf and I've got a ton of spiritual path and religious exploration books.
If you could go back in time, where would you go and when? What is one thing you would want to take with you?
Back in time? Hm. If I just wanted to clean up my existing life, I'd go back to the day I flipped a horse and broke my back in three places.
I'd be a little more careful with my hands there. I asked him to come up, a little too fast, and he went up and over.
If we're talking serious time travel, I don't wanna go. I like flushing toilets (I'm a plumber's daughter!) And, forgive me for bringing this up, but I like modern feminine hygiene products and toilet paper. I'll stay put, thanks.
What makes a book a great book to you?
I read so much that most books go in and slip out, without memorable impact. When I find something that is emotionally enthralling, that has me thinking about it later--I know I've found something great.
I've been seeing a number of discussions on the Yahoo groups about Happily-Ever-After. Do you feel that HEA is necessary to a romance novel?
Nope. I say, gimme me that super-kismet for a moment. I'd rather love for an instant, live like there's no tomorrow--than fade into the sunset.
So, for example, my werewolf series tends to be "grab it while you can."
I like happy ever after endings. I just don't think they're required to make a great book.
What are some of your hobbies besides writing?
Kids. Horses. Reading. Driving around. Shopping. Eating. (Got a lot of them.)
What was the first story you ever wrote?
A rip-off of a Run, Spot, Run--or whatever that book was called.
Has being published changed you at all? If so, how?
Makes me more determined to write better. Each one needs to be an improvement on the last.
On your blog,
http://carysweldonblog.blogspot.com/, you put up an excerpt for a work-in-progress about Mira Sparks, can you tell us about it?
Mira's story is very common and it's based on some things I've seen in my daughter's workplace. Or, rather, it starts with an average girl. She's mistreated by her boss--sexually harassed. She wants revenge.
That's where the story takes off from real life. She gets empowered when a vampire named Rick bites her. Except, he's not just a regular vamp. He's an archangel for God.
This is one of those tales that makes you think...about all you've heard. After all, if Satan has his minions, and they're wicked--don't you think God's got some wicked cool rebuttal to that?
Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
Please, take a look at my website. I have so many coming. Info will be posted as soon as things are under contract. The blog tells my current projects, by the day, even. So, please, go there!
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Just...thanks for having me. And I love to hear from people via email or through my newsletter list--which you can post to. Go to my site and sign up for that, if you will.
Again, thanks!
