Twyla Dawn McNight Interview

I am delighted to be speaking with Twyla Dawn McNight today. Thanks for chatting with us today Twyla and welcome to FAR!

I'm glad to be here. Thanks, Tammy for the warm welcome. Hi everyone.

Let me start by asking you to tell us something about yourself that makes you unique?
I’m blonde, no, I’m red head, I was blonde last month. Hahhaaa. Unique? Hummm, I whistle like a tomboy. I have ever since I’ve been about eight years old. I get compliments that my laughter puts people in a happy mood. Oh, my eyes, they are hazel and I love them because they change from green, to brown, or blue depending on my moods, like a mood ring.

Can you tell us more about your book Unto Death We Do Part?
I'd love to. Detective Dasco is one tough cop. He and the villain, Vito Tucci, have been enemies from childhood. Besides being cop and criminal, they loved the same woman, Maria. Dasco married her. Tucci killed her. Then, Sophia stands before them in the police station-Do they see a ghost? Sophia is an unknown twin of Maria’s. The game is on; Dasco must keep her safe from Tucci since she has proof of his criminal action. Tucci wants Dasco dead this time and has figured out a way Sophia will be his bride.

What is your favorite type of genre to write?
I love paranormal and suspense. But no matter what I write, I add suspense and a bad guy in. Sooooooooo, suspense is the # 1 genre I love to write.

How do you keep your ideas fresh and imaginative?
Fresh is when the hero starts touching the heroine, right? Hahaha. Fresh? For some reason I see a lady picking a ripe apple off an apple tree. (It could be a peach, an orange, whatever) Goodness, it’s Eve. She started it all. (I’m glad she did) Fresh to me is something that heightens all my senses. Just as a bite of a crispy, juicy, tongue-wetting apple. This to me is how each one of my romance book should read, sweet, juicy, wet and so very delicious. Fresh to me is a breathtaking unique hero and heroine that drives the plot. My hero and heroine give me their stories, I write them.

Imaginative is where the hero has it all worked out in his mind just how he’s going to get the heroine in bed, right? But it never works that way, but she stimulates him onward to have her even more. Seriously? I have no problem with my imaginations --- it’s a natural part of the way my mind works as I write. The movie (in my visual mind) starts and mot the time my fingers can’t key it in fast enough. But once the idea births, the hero and heroine take act, they drive the suspense in a breathtaking plot.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Hahahaa. The real question is, where isn’t there inspiration for my stories? It’s all around me, outdoors, indoors, it’s everywhere. It could be a catch of conversation, part of a song, an idea that hits watching any kind of movie on TV, even a child's cartoon. Hats, yes hats. If I have writer's block, I find people in hats or I just go to the store and look at different hats. Hats tell the story of who will wear it and what kind of h/h would s/he be if they wore this kind of hat. The same can be done with apparel, shoes, etc, even driving around and looking at houses and asking, what kind of h/h would ... (you get my drift?) My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere, I and never have enough time to write all the story ideas that I receive.

You Like It, You Want It, is coming out this month from Triskelion Publishing. What can you tell us about it?
I had so much fun writing this book. Tee Anne Cox, a child genius, who has been groomed and has been in high security all her life because she's the US #1 scientist on airborne viruses, rebels at thirty-one we wants a long vacation. She takes off to Vegas with kidnapper’s only feet away. She wants to experience all that sin city can offer. Her goal is to have hot sex and get pregnant so she can offer her love to her child, like she never was loved. She and Travis MacField libido drives them wild being a one night stand.
To protect Tee, a top security agent is called in from an elite branch of the FBI. The assignment, a married couple on vacation. Unknown to them both, they sign an agreement, no sex, and they say, "I Do," under the disguise wearing customs. What a shock! The sex flame has already been lit. How will Travis and Tee keep their hands off each other? Especially since the threat of kidnapers are very near.

Do you have a character that is especially close to your heart?
Dasco, in Unto Death Do We Part. I've been writing for years and Unto Death We Do Part is one of my first manuscripts. I must have revised this ms more than fifty plus times over the course of twenty years. I still have the 400 plus pages of it on file. The published ebook is a revised and edited down to 144 pages. He was, is my first hero baby.

What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
First and utmost is that every book that I write will be the best that I can write for my readers. My hope is to keep them on the edge of their seats, turning every page, and that it's consumed so well it's as if they are the hero and heroines, experiencing all the emotions. That this story stays with them, that it’s touched them, that it has made a difference in their lives, that it will be remembered. In this, that the reader will be eager for my next book.

Who are your favorite authors? Who inspires you?
That’s not a fair question, hehehhe. I have too many favorite authors to list that I love to read. Who inspires me? I must go back to my roots, to the beginning of my author's career. There’s two authors who have been mentors and friends, Debbie Macomber and Suzanne Macpherson.

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
Ooooooooooooo, if I told you that, I might get in trouble. So I’ll have to keep it a secret and let you all wonder. Is it something naughty? Of course. Oh, you mean like, crocheting, swimming, hiking, camping, dancing, kick boxing? I enjoy doing all of those things especially when it includes my loved ones.

What is your favorite part of a book to write?
Besides the first draft? My, my, it most definitely is writing the love scenes.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Yes :) Here's a short description of my hero, Travis, and heroine, Tee from You Like It, You Want It, by Twyla Dawn McNight (text may vary from published ebook)

Tee's description given by Travis

Travis planned on living it up his twenty-four hours before heading to the nearest base and flying out to wherever. Way too soon he’d be briefed on his mission. His eyes landed on the red hair babe who just walked into the hotel.

Hot damn! She took his breath away.

What a sight and damn if she didn’t turn him on with that skin tight, hot pink number on. He went from zero and way passed boiling in less than a second. The skimpy dress showed every curve. And man oh man, she had a set of melons he’d love to get his hands and mouth on. She stumbled and Travis almost raced towards her to catch her. So did almost every man at the bar. He would have to attempt to be the first to catch her eye. The ungraceful moves were brief and she pulled herself together before she hit the floor with the help of a nearby Bell Boy. Travis chuckled and took a swig off of his long neck beer bottle.

Too bad her top hadn’t slipped down and allowed her breasts to be bare. But he did get an eye full seeing the lacy thong that matched. Damn, he wanted to see more and swirled on his barstool to face her. He put his full attention on the beauty. Hell, he had to hold himself back from running to the elevator to go up with her. What nasty wonderful thoughts he had, and it caused him to grin more. What he had in mind was to take her good and hard before she got to her floor, then to his bed, they'd play all night long.

She hid behind sunglasses and either she was embarrassed or sunburn with her light complexion almost as pink as her tube dress. Everything about her turned him on. She was the one.

Travis' description by Tee

Tee didn’t know how to flirt, but she surely could manage to get a hunk’s attention. She would get that special man’s to donate his sperm for her baby before the night was over.

Tee thought about the chocolate hunk at the bar and how he grinned at her awkward entrance. She felt down right feminine that his gaze trailed her full body, down and ups, oh so slowly. Even with her sunglasses on, he stared right into her eyes, holding her full attention. His gaze seemed to say, “I’ll have you.” Chills skittered all over her. She sighed in yearning.

“Have mercy, he was built like Paul Bunyan.” His shoulders were wide in that skin tight, black T-shirt that stated in white letters across a muscular chest, “Come on if you think you can handle me.” She loved the way his black wavy hair cascaded down his back. He reminded her of a warrior, a wild man in days of old. She couldn't see the color of his eyes, but she bet they were dark as the night. Oh mercy, when he smiled those double dimple cheeks did the zip-zing right through her. She sighed. He would be the one, she hoped.
