Fallen Angel Reviews is happy to introduce author
Karen Kelley. Welcome and thank you for joining us.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
My life is actually a Cinderella story. You know, from rags to…wait a minute, where are my riches?
Truthfully (yeah, right, I make a living making up stories!) I wouldn’t want to change anything about my life except maybe losing weight, being able to shop more, having oodles of money, maids to clean my house…..
Other than a few minor things, I love my life, especially being able to write full time. I’ve been truly blessed.
How has being published changed your life, if at all?
I don’t have to drive to work? I’ve really saved a lot of money on gas and scrubs? (I used to be a nurse. Actually, I still am).
Seriously, I think getting published has given me more confidence in myself.
Hell on Wheels is your latest book. Tell us about Cody and Josh.
When I wrote Josh I kept imaging him as a young Val Kilmer. He’s kind of cool and laid back. Cody, on the other hand, wears a tough armor, but on the inside she’s crying out for someone to care about her, someone who won’t fail her. But it’s not all dark angst. There’s comedy as well.
Josh is a very yummy hero, if I do so say myself. (grin) To you, what makes a great romance hero?
A hero would be someone who sees all your faults but loves you anyway.
Now that’s an awwww moment, folks! I don’t care who you are.
Can we get a teaser for what else you are working on right now? (grin)
I’m changing some things up a little. I’ve been blessed with the fabulous Kate Duffy as my editor who loves my comedy. I sent her a proposal about an alien who leaves her perfect planet in search of imperfection. What she finds is small town sheriff, Mason McKinley. She really turns his world upside down. I’m not sure if I’ll get to keep my title so I can’t say what it’ll be called, but it will be out in April of 2007. I’ve been told my comedy is my strong point so I’m hoping everyone is right. I know I love writing it.
I’m also dipping my pen into the paranormal inkwell (Okay, I really have a computer but I was waxing poetic). The book I just turned in is another comedy about a psychic and a skeptic who have to stay in a vacant hotel to prove the other one wrong about the paranormal. Oh, and it also has a couple of sex-starved ghosts.
I’m having a lot of fun with my writing.
Tell your fans something about you they would never guess.
I’m not pregnant. I’m not a teacher nor did I ever teach. I don’t like dark chocolate, but I will eat it in a pinch.
Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
I love to shop, even if it’s window shopping. I love antique stores, and tearooms that cater to the senses. I love sitting on my patio and bird watching. I love being with my family and friends. Getting my hair done---and a manicure and pedicure. I think everyone needs a little pampering now and then.
If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
Photo session during the shooting of an all male calendar.
You find yourself stranded on a desert island, what things could you not survive without?
A sexy pirate, preferably Johnny Depp.
If your life were a movie, what would you name it? What would be the theme song?
Survivor.
Look At Me Now.
What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
Shopping.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
I’ve been blessed with a career I’d only dreamed about. I still pinch myself to see if all this is real. But it’s more than the career. It’s meeting so many people that share the same love that I have for romance books. They’ve fallen in love with the same stories and characters. How much better can life get then having that common bond?
