Jennah Sharpe Interview

Today I am speaking with Jennah Sharpe. Hello Jennah, and welcome this morning to Fallen Angel Reviews.
Thanks so much. I'm excited to be here.

Jennah, I noticed that you have a beautiful shifter story available this autumn from Cobblestone Press. Why not begin by telling us about this wonderful book?
Storm Surge was a great story to write. I really had fun with it. It is the story of Mia, a cryptozoologist, in search of a merman and of a merman striving to protect his colony. Able to shift into the form of a man, Tydon learns more about those who threaten his family and reveals his secret to Mia. I've received some great reviews for this story both from readers and reviewers.

Have you always desired to be a writer?
A writer is something I've always been. It never occurred to me until recently, that creative writing could be a bigger part of my life. Since I've found somewhere for my stories to call home, characters have been elbowing each other to get out of my head.

What does the future look like for Jennah?
I have a definitive set of goals that I want to accomplish within the next two years. I have three upcoming books, one with Cobblestone Press and two with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid. In addition I have four works in progress that are coming along wonderfully. Hopefully, they'll find a home within the year. I intend for this to be my life for quite some time.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
My inspiration comes from settings first, although Storm Surge came from a long time fascination with Mer beings. The art of Hajime Soroyama also pushed me in the Mer direction.

I love to travel. When I visit a particularly inspirational place, the characters then develop. Who would be here? What would they be doing? are questions I ask. My writing is meant to provide an escape for my readers. I love to use exotic locales to help with that. Both Storm Surge and Along the Hibiscus Path are set on tropical Caribbean-like islands. Last Resort, my upcoming book with Cobblestone is set in the South Pacific. My books for WCPT are set in various locations, France, ancient Britannia and the east coast of Canada.

Do you ever have to listen to music or anything when you are composing?
Sometimes I do, but not often. The Lord of the Dance soundtrack is exceptionally inspirational. I use music to create a mood. Once the writing has begun, I prefer quiet. Well...as much as I can get.

If you weren't writing, what would you be doing?
If I weren't writing...that's actually really hard to imagine. I'm staying home to raise my two children so I'd still be doing that. I would very likely volunteer at the school more often.

Was there any one person or event in your life that finally inspired you to sit down and write your first book?
My first book came out of a trip. I was alone at a campsite, without a vehicles, miles from nowhere for a week. It was just what I needed to get started. I sat in a lawn chair on the northern shores of Lake Huron and wrote longhand.

Do you have a favorite movie that you could watch over and over again? Or a favorite song that you could always listen to?
Oh, I love movies. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy I can watch again and again. It's brilliant. But the one that never fails to move me is Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. Having visited Montmartre, the story feels very real to me. You either loved it or hated it but the sheer persistance of Christian to have the woman he loves is awe-inspiring. And then there's McGregor's singing voice...yummy!

As for songs, Everything I Do by Bryan Adams, Rhythm Devine by Enrique Iglesias. I also really love Cuban Salsa music.

Do you have one author who really stands out to you?
Off the top of my head? Let's see...Karen Marie Moning's extremely sensual writing, Rosamunde Pilcher's fine details. I love Maeve Binchy and am just discovering Emma Holly. Quite a wide range, I suppose.

Have you ever written a screenplay or thought of writing one?
It has occurred to me, however, I've never tried. I haven't written anything yet that would suite the screenplay requirements. I would love to try it someday.

What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
Reading does that for me. Whether it be sitting by the lake or in bed. A long, hot bath usually does the trick as well. I'm very good at relaxing when I get the opportunity.

For Fun: What is your favorite place to travel?
As I'm Canadian, the warm, sunny weather of the Caribbean is by far my favourite, particularly Cuba. The people are so friendly and the music is superb. It's also one that my bank account can sometimes afford. If I could pick anywhere to go, it would be Scotland, Fiji, New Zealand and Italy. Not too much to ask, is it?

Is this the right website for everyone to go and visit your great works and learn more about you?
http://www.jennahsharpe.com Yes, that's the one. My site is very interactive with photos of settings and characters, my calendar, occasional chats, a forum and contests. Also, don't forget to visit my blog at www.jennahsharpe.blogspot.com. I love to hear from readers.

Jennah, thanks so much for sharing this time with us. It has been a delight. I wish you the very best in your writing career.
Thanks so much, Linda. I visit Fallen Angel Reviews often and I'm proud to now be a part of what you do.
