Today I am speaking with
Sienna Dawn.
Hello
Sienna, and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to speak with us today.
Hello Linda, and thank you for inviting me.
Sienna, you have an interesting website. And I read you live near the Cherokee National Forest. I bet that is really amazing. I visited the Chimney Rock area once in NC and loved the scenery. I can imagine all the splendor you wake to each morning. And the covers to your books are awesome.
Escape Inside the Pages is such a lovely page to view, too, on your webpage.
Thank you Linda. I'm glad you like my website. The Cherokee National Forest is an amazing place to live, especially for someone who was born and raised in Maryland. Although, I could do without the bears in our front yards on a daily basis. LOL.
Thank you. I have to say I'm very proud of my book covers. Jim Farris, of DiskUs Publishing, did a wonderful job on my Dead by O'Hallow's Eve cover and I'm very proud of my other covers of which I did myself.
Escape inside the pages just seemed to fit. I read romance to escape the daily bump and grind and I find that others do as well.
Why not tell us something about
Sienna Dawn? How would you describe a typical day in your life?
Oh, very busy. Being the mother of three boys and a wife among so many other job titles is chaos on most days, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I find that my sons are a big inspiration to me and some of the circumstances I end up in on a daily basis find places in my stories. I must say that there's never a dull moment. LOL.
Would you like to tell us a little about your recent release,
Dead by O’Hallow’s Eve?
Sure. Dead by O'Hallow's Eve is a short romantic suspense story about Tamry Shaw and Clay Pennington. Five years ago Tamry lost everything she cared about when a woman she despised was murdered and the man she loved is accused of the crime. Now, they must work together to find the real killer before they become the next victims all while fighting the love that still binds them.
Do you prefer writing suspense over romance?
Actually, to me, romance is suspense. I love combining the two and coming up with not only a great roller coaster ride, but an emotional ride as well. Romance is the core, but add a big splash of suspense and you have an adventure of a lifetime. Real life isn't always expected so why should our romances be?
Has being published changed your life in any way?
To a certain extent, yes it has. It has shown me that I am capable of doing so much more then I thought possible. It has changed my perspective on people in general. I now see the what if and possibilities in everyone and I encourage anyone with a dream to go for it and reach for those stars including my own sons. We are here for such a short time and I believe that we are all given a talent so for that short time we have the world at our feet if we only reach out to grab it.
What does your working space look like? Are you an organized person?
Umm, can I plead the fifth on that one? LOL. No, I'm not very organized. As I said earlier, chaos is my middle name and I think that I thrive more because of that chaos. If I didn't have to search through piles of papers for that one piece of information I need at the moment I wouldn't have time to let my thoughts wonder and come up with new twists and turns for my current work in progress. Now that doesn't mean I don't plot because to a certain extent I do, I'm just all over the place in the process and organization department and for the time being it works for me. I'm sure the day will come though when I'll need all the organization and discipline I can get, but right now I enjoy the process and my messy desk.
From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing, perhaps mostly from the mountains where you reside?
Oh, the mountains help as well as my rambunctious boys, but I think what most inspires me are the Romance Divas. Since I joined this wonderful group I have increased my writing and I just had a short story accepted by Cobblestone Press (under another Pen name.) These ladies and gents are a fountain of knowledge and are so willing to share that knowledge. They have encouraged me and helped me through so many writing obstacles and to me there's nothing more inspirational then the Diva family. Writing can be such a lonely path, but if you find other writers such as the Divas, you'll never be alone. Its shown me that going it alone is not the best option. You love your family, but they don't always get it so having a writing family is awesome. If you're a writer, from newbie to experienced, I would highly recommend the Romance Divas.
You don't have to go it alone.
Do you have any special routine to help you get in the mood to write?
No, no routine. It's an in the moment thing. Sometimes music gets me back into the scene, sometimes playing what if. Every story has had a different path of motivation and mood.
What is your favorite part of a book to write?
The end. Just kidding. No, I think my favorite part is the beginning. Getting just the right hook and mood can be hard, but I absolutely love it. You know a lot about your characters before you even start writing, but this is the real introduction for the writer as she finds out things about her hero and heroine she never knew.
Is there one habit you have that you know you’ll never change?
Oh, I have a lot of habits and I probably won't change any of them. As the saying goes, "If it's not broke don't fix it." LOL. As for one particular habit I think that would have to be the process of sparking ideas. I don't do it consciously it's just there and when it screams at me I go with it. I've come up with some off the wall ideas and some of them are still sitting in files waiting to see the light of day, but I'm sure one day they'll make it. I don't see myself ever changing that process or habit. It's just a part of me.
Every writer dreams about receiving “the call”. What were you doing when yours came in? Did you do anything special to celebrate?
My very first sale ever was to DiskUs Publishing. I was sitting at the computer writing. I found myself stuck on a scene so I popped over to my email and there it sat. Let's just say the neighbors knew something big happened. LOL. I printed that email out and have it framed. I know that sounds weird, but to me that was a big moment in my life, one that I wanted to treasure always.
My celebration included snoopy dancing across the house as I screamed. Later on my husband and sons did take me out to dinner though. It was nice to have my sons and my husband with me and see the pride in their eyes. Talk about one of those life altering experiences and not just for me. I think my sons finally believed me when I would tell them, "You can be anything you want to be if you work at it hard enough."
Do you have another website, other than,
www.siennadawn.com that you would like to share with us?
Sienna Dawn is my romantic suspense site.
I do have another website for my erotic romance, which is under the pen name Ember Sinclair. It's www.embersinclair.com
What is your vacation spot to travel?
Most of our vacations are to the Cherokee Reservation, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge. I've been working on my family tree for about a year now, and according to some links from a cousin, we have a Cherokee link in one or two branches of our family. I'm so enthralled with learning about our family that the idea for Star of Destiny came from that.
What is your all time favorite food or dessert?
Hmm, favorite food would have to be Quizno's subs. I love their steak and cheese subs. Yummy. Dessert would have to be, in true Diva fashion, anything chocolate.
Again, thank you very much,
Sienna for taking time to speak with us today. I wish you the best in all your fantastic works and look forward to more of your great works in the future.
Thank you for having me Linda. It was a pleasure to be here and thank you for the well wishes.
