Today I am speaking with
Savannah Black. Good morning,
Savannah, it is very good to have you join us today.
Thank you Linda it is an honor to be here.
Savannah, I love the introduction pic to your website.
My web mistress and I wanted something with a southwest flair but simple. I got both.
I understand you have a new release,
DARK DESERT by Mardi Gras out and another one on the way,
Vixen of the Night, Book one in the Series, Followers of Cain. It is on my TBR file.
Actually since Yahoo seems to have been holding back mail I have both books out now and am floating on air, but working twice as hard with promos and answering emails.
Savannah, I love that name. Why not tell the readers something about
Savannah Black?
Savannah is dark and sultry. I find romance and erotic romance right up my alley. I love the steamy side of life. Dark nights a live blues or jazz band and a long slinky dress. Black of course.
When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first manuscript?
I have wanted to be a writer all my life. I just didn't write until about 18 years ago. I was going through some serious problems and writing about them saved my life. I started getting rejection letters for my short stories very soon afterwards. However I kept writing.
Do you have some upcoming projects planned that you wish to share?
The Ancients Return book 2 of the Followers of Cain is half done and I have hopes of getting it released on Halloween. I also have a 90K contemporary western romance called A Cowboy's Love Story. I am doing an edit on that one. I also have a children’s Fantasy series started. It has flying horses, Dragons, magical Teddy Bears, and lots of magic.
What are the elements of a great romance for you?
It is that sudden attraction. Eyes meet across a crowded room and something magical happens. It is the want to be together yet the world striving to keep you apart. Ultimately it is your triumph and you prove nothing can separate you.
After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever pull it from the shelf and read it over again?
Sometimes, I tend to have such a busy life and mind, It is good to reconnect with an old friend.
What is the hardest part of writing and the easiest for you?
If I really like the characters it is hard to end the book, unless it has a sequel. Sometimes the easiest is the writing. When my muse is hard at work it is as if someone else is doing the creating and I am just the channel to get it out. I can hardly wait to sit down and see what is going to happen next. It is like reading a good book instead of writing it.
Have you experienced writer's block? If so, how did you work through it?
I have gotten the block. It is a hard one. I end up editing until it is flowing again.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
Knowing that people like your writing enough to buy it. I would write if I never sold a book. I have gotten fan mail and it gets the endorphins flowing.
If you weren't writing, what would you be doing?
Probably doing a lot of reading. I work outside some. I enjoy creating something from nothing as in building with wood. I love power tools.
Do you have any encouraging words for up and coming writers?
Write for yourself and never stop writing. If you want to get published, be a pit bull with a bone and don't let go. Don't be afraid of rejection. Also join writer’s groups and get others to edit your work. You have the final say so but sometimes you can't see the tree for the forest.
Do you have a website that you would like to share other than this one?
www.savannahblack-erotic-author.com
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Savannahblacknewsletter/
Are you a member of any loops and do you feel the loops help get in touch with other authors?
Yes to both questions. It helps to see what others are doing and get questions answered. One is Mardi Gras Authors Loop
Just for Fun: What is your favorite candy? A place you would love to visit?
CHOCOLATE OF COURSE! Montana
Anything else you would like to share with your readers?
Only not to ever give up your dream. You can be the best writer in the world and still have a hard time connecting with an agent or publisher. Hang in there Baby!
Savannah, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to spend with us today.
You are so welcome. It was fun. Thank you.
