A.J. Cove Interview

I am delighted to be speaking with A.J. Cove today. Thanks for chatting with us today A.J. and welcome to FAR!
To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current release The Invisible Rose?
The Invisible Rose is about Doshi Langrin, a princess of the Glamdire Kingdom. It’s pure fantasy, sort of based on a historical theme with carriages and virgin girls living at home until they get married. Doshi is almost invisible compared to her wild sister who attracts every male within miles. One day Doshi’s father decides he’ll marry off Doshi’s sister to a prince of another kingdom whether she likes it or not. Meanwhile, Doshi is visited by a mysterious woman who grants her the power to become invisible for real. She has a little fun playing tricks on the maids but then sees her real chance at adventure when she lays eyes on her sister’s intended. What’s a princess to do, set free from her boundaries but to have an affair with the prince her sister doesn’t want. The steamy nights in the prince’s bed and the danger Doshi faces in the midst is why I think readers will enjoy this story.

You write many different genres, is there one you haven’t tried and would like to?
Actually, my concentration so far has been in fantasy. I love making up worlds and breaking rules in my writing. I’ve written about gargoyles and demons, princes, shape-shifters, fairies and soon I’m going to do something on a dragon. I think that if I do any other genre, it will be paranormal. I really want to do a vampire story and I’m thinking about it for my free story I agreed to do for Valentine’s Day.

Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
Outline? What in the world is that? Haha. Actually, what I do is get a story idea in my head. Then I sit there wondering what I want to happen. Next, I write out the detailed synopsis of what will happen throughout the book. I have found, if I don’t do this, it takes me forever to write a story. That’s probably why I haven’t finished my latest work, Shift Hunter.

What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
I would like to write as much as possible, as many stories as I can make up. I’d like to get a book in print, though I’ve not made the push to do that at all. I’m still pretty new and just stretching my fingers a bit. Of course, having my story as a best seller wouldn’t be bad either. Lol.

Your book Stone Guardian is available from Amira Press for pre-order, could you tell us more about it?
Yes, I’ve gotten really good reviews for Stone Guardian. I think it was hard for me to really give a good picture of how interesting the story is just from the blurb. The heroine, Jade, finds herself in a stranger’s home in Ireland. Her face has been changed, her name has been changed and the man who owns the house might be harboring a real live gargoyle beneath his house. Jade thinks she might be losing her mind when she sees this creature with her own eyes battling it out with a demon in the late night hours. On top of that, someone is trying to kill her, a handsome, yet dark, man is pursuing her and she can’t fight her attraction to the Irishman who holds her prisoner. I hope that gives you a bit of an idea of how wild a ride I take you on in this book.

Do you have any bad writing habits?
Hmm, let me see. I’m not sure what a bad writing habit would be. I’m tempted to Google it and see if I can get some idea what to write here. Well I get lazy and don’t feel like looking anything up. That might be why I like fantasy. Although I did research on slang and land layout for Ireland.

What are some of your hobbies besides writing?
Is there a world beyond writing? I love it. I breathe it. Haha. Ok, ok. I love to watch movies. I collect DVDs and action flicks are an addiction. Funny enough, I don’t prefer love stories in film. Huh, that’s probably why I add action and danger in my stories. And if I can add a twist, all the better. Other than movies, I watch cartoons. And I read some. I want to do more of that when I can squeeze it in.

Can you tell us something about you that makes you unique?
Hmm. Thinking. Is there anything? I feel ordinary. Oh I know, story wise. I like to fantasize about being that sweet innocent thing rescued by a strong hero who saves me from the bad guy. I’d even like to write about that kind of heroine if I thought anyone would read the story. Haha. Instead, most of my heroines are strong and competent and usually are not virgins. But in real life, I run the show. I wouldn’t allow a man to do much more than…well you know for me. Lol. Does that make me unique?

What is your most favorite part of being a writer? The least favorite?
Oh, that’s an easy one. I love to come up with story ideas and write out the synopsis before hand. I don’t like the page by page part of it. I always want to just sit and read it rather than write it. How crazy. But I live to create the idea. I know that makes no sense, but that’s pretty much me.

What is the one thing you've always wanted to do but never had the courage/opportunity to try?
To have a book signing in real life, offline. It’s not the one thing, but at least a thing. I’m ridiculously shy of people. That’s why I write. It lets me experience those wild adventures in my mind.

Is there anything you would like to add?
Well I’d like to add that I enjoy hearing from my readers, their thoughts and questions on my stories. I invite anyone to check out my Website and/or email me at ajcove@comcast.net. It would be great to hear the reactions of readers to my books. And thanks so much, Tammy, for having me. I enjoyed this.

Thank you for taking time to speak with me today A.J., I enjoyed it as well.
