Scott Carpenter and Sahara Kelly Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome the dynamic writing team of Scott Carpenter and Sahara Kelly. Thanks so much for taking the time to sit and chat with us.
SK: Our pleasure, Serena. Thanks for asking us. (Wiggles butt) Move over, Scott. You’re squishing me and I’m afraid I’ll spill my rum and coke.

SC: Quit pushing, now my face is smooshed against the screen.

I'd like to start out by saying that the fact that the two of you write together so well and yet live on opposite sides of the States is just amazing! How did you hook up?
SK: Well, I begged and whimpered and cried and pestered him with emails. Finally, he surrendered. (The whimpers got to him, I think.)

SC: She stalked me. Wrote me those emails about free sex and stuff.

The logistics of writing together across country is just mind boggling, can you walk us through how you make it work?
SK: Free long-distance phone service! And a LOT of IM’s. Actually, we try and work out our plot ideas first, by phone, then do bits and pieces (he does the bits and I piece it together. LOL).

SC: There are a LOT of bits. I tend to be more scattered in writing, she’s more linear. It drives her crazy but she loves it.

SK: We’ll mail back and forth, each adding our own ideas and changing stuff where we need to - we trust each other. Don’t think it would work without that important fact. It’s like really great sex without the snoring afterwards. Very satisfying.

SC: I don’t snore.

SK: Yeah. Right.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you currently have 6 books written together, 5 of which are currently available, can you give us a little insight on the hows, whos, and whys to them?
SK: We started with our first Partners in Passion book, Eleanor and Justin - a simple contemporary love story. It was soooo cool having Scott write Justin, and it worked so well that we knew we’d do more along these lines…hence the next two, No Limits and most recently Pure Sin. All in the same town, with a few overlapping characters. I’ll let Scott tell you about Haunting Love Alley and Detour…don’t want to yak on too long and hog the interview. I’ll never hear the end of it.

SC: Detour was just us writing something that wasn’t Partners In Passion. Was fun and I got to be a lot more goofy. Put me in a sex shop and watch out. Haunting Love Alley was a real change for us. We wanted something different. We thought about paranormal but didn’t want it to be like others so we went with a ghost story. We had a lot of fun with it and I personally love the story.

I've always been fascinated by where inspiration comes from, is there any one thing that fuels your Muses?
SK: For me, inspiration can come from anything, anywhere, anytime. A TV ad, a title…it really doesn’t matter. So I don’t have any one particular thing that cranks up the Muse dial. I wish I did. It would sure help when the ideas get a bit skimpy.

SC: Naked women inspire me. Oh, you mean a muse for writing, sorry. Music, give me some smooth R&B and watch out. I have a few singers that hold personal places in my heart - and other regions - and listening to them inspires me every time.

Who's your favorite character to date and why? Favorite book?
SK: Oh lord. Tough one. I love all the stories I’ve written with Scott and I’m so proud of each and every one. Haunting Love Alley holds a soft spot in my heart, I will admit…just because it was so much fun to write and research and it all came together in one moment of blinding glory…no wait, that was the sex. Sorry…

SC: This is a tough one indeed. I would have to say Justin is my favorite character. He’s the first one I wrote with Sahara and the one I identify with most. He’s basically me. I wrote him saying and talking just like I would and it made him more real for me. As for a favorite book with Sahara I’d say Love Alley also. It was different for me and very interesting to write it.

What do you find is the biggest challenge while writing?
SK: Um…the damn time difference.

SC: Writing a sex scene and having the kids running around talking about farting.

What's on the horizon for the two of you? Can you give us a sneak peek into any works you have, well, in the works?
SK: I’m gonna defer to my partner on this one. Our latest adventure took root in his fertile brain and I’m following where he leads. I have to admit I always learn something new from this man with every book we write together. You’d be amazed… LOL

SC: She always does this. I’m sorry, you said you wanted something fun so I said pornos. We’re writing about a porn movie. A woman gets into the porn movie industry and . . . well, you’ll see soon enough. We both have projects on our own coming out too.

You had a workshop at RT this past April which I must say was a hoot, do you think you'll be doing any more of those? Were you able to cover everything that you wanted to there?
SK: We had a blast at RT and I think we’d definitely consider doing another seminar, but as of right now we don’t have any plans in motion. I think we covered a lot, but the most important thing was that we got to talk to readers. That’s a source of endless joy for both of us…just talking, listening, answering questions - so much fun!!!

SC: That was a lot of fun. I agree with Sahara, like always, that it was nice to talk to readers. We did it so they could ask questions, win some free stuff, and relax. I write for the readers, and what they say and think is important to me and to us.

You have a website at is there anywhere else that we can keep tabs on you as a team?
SK: Well, as of right now, I can’t think of anything. LOL We have our own websites, of course, our own MySpace pages and our own newsletters. We’re shy people. (Honest.) Doing anything else would just clutter things up, I reckon. Oh…we do have a little Yahoo group of our own - PartnersinPerversion@yahoogroups.com. Or is that the email addy? I can never get it straight.

SC: Yes we are shy. Can’t you tell? Our group isn’t really super active. We talk, answer questions and tell a few jokes. I think the readers like that.

SK: We agreed up front that this wouldn’t be a “promo” group. No endless promotions from anyone other than us, and we don’t do that much so it’s a bit quiet. But we do talk about a bunch of stuff you don’t find on other groups, which is nice. And I bitch and whine occasionally. It’s nice to vent. LOL

Is there anything you'd like to add?
SK: You’ve covered a lot of bases, Serena!! I like to make sure that I get to thank not only the readers but the reviewers, whenever I get the chance. These days there’s an absolute swamping flood of ebooks out there. Getting a review isn’t a right, it’s a privilege and never more so than now. So I’d like to say “thank you” to every reviewer for all their hard work!!

SC: Yes thank you. So I make the check out to who, Serena? The only thing I’d like to add is that I have been really lucky. I met a great woman that writes hot sexy books, and she actually gets my warped mind. The readers and reviewers like us and I can’t ask for much more then that as a writer. Thanks to all my nymphos also, you know who you are.

SK: <sniffling> Right back at ya, honey.

Thanks again for answering our questions, if you'd like to learn more about these two fabulous people, you can visit their websites at http://www.partnersinpassion.net/ , http://www.slcarpenter.net/, and http://www.saharakelly.com/.
SK: Um, Scott? Can I have another rum and coke now we’re finished with the interview? Pleeeese???

SC: See? Just like sex, I do whatever the wife asks.

SK:<giggle> Yeah. Ain’t it fun?
