Readers, today we are speaking with
Jennifer Lewis.
Jennifer, welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews.
Thanks for having me!
Why not tell the readers a little something about
Jennifer?
Hmm, let’s see, I’m mom to two young children who keep me on my toes. I live in a rustic area near NYC and I enjoy both spending time in the outdoors and hanging out in the city. I’ve always loved to make up stories, so writing is a dream job for me.
I noticed you have a release out,
The Boss’s Demand. Where did the idea for this book come from?
I became fascinated by the idea of a woman who has a one-night stand with her boss—which they both consider to be a terrible lapse of judgment—then discovers that she’s pregnant. How would she tell him? How would he react? How would him being her boss shape their relationship as parents to the unborn child? All these questions raced around in my mind for a while before I wrote the book.
Does the future hold more releases for
Jennifer in upcoming projects?
Indeed it does! My second book Seduced for the Inheritance is coming out from Silhouette Desire in October 2007. It’s the story of a woman returning home to find that her childhood crush is as delicious as ever and that they are both tangled in a thicket of family secrets. In January 2008, a bad-boy corporate raider decides to get revenge on the woman who once broke his heart in Black Sheep Billionaire, also from Desire.
What elements do you think make a good book?
I enjoy fast-paced, intense stories with a lot of emotion and crackling sexual tension. If there’s some humor laced in there, that’s even better. And an irresistible hero, of course.
What kind of books would we find on your bookshelf?
I have all kinds of books on my bookshelf. Mostly romance, but I also love mysteries and thrillers and I’m in a book group that reads a literary book once a month. I’m also a voracious reader of non-fiction on almost any subject that catches my eye.
What is the hardest part of writing and the easiest for you?
Probably the easiest is daydreaming about my characters and building them in my imagination. The hardest is getting rejections, which don’t stop even after you sell!
How would you describe your writing area?
It’s a long pine table with the breakfast dishes still on it… Even though I have a small study, I usually write at the kitchen table. I guess I like to be in the center of things, and it has a lovely view of the backyard.
In your writings, do you prefer a strong hero or heroine?
I absolutely require a strong hero and heroine. I don’t want to read or write about wimps! For a long time I worried that my heroines might be too strong to sell, but I think they are a perfect match for the dangerously alpha males that Desire is publishing now.
Do you have any encouraging words for up and coming writers?
What could be more fun than dreaming up stories and sharing them with others? Keep hold of that joy of creation and don’t let the more difficult aspects of this business take that from you. Also, I think persistence is about 90% of success in publishing, so keep at it!
If you could be any instrument which would you be?
Hmm, I think I’d be a harp, letting the breeze tickle notes from my golden strings
Any other
website that you would like to share?
I only have the one website, but I do love to hang out at RomanceDivas.com, and eHarlequin.com.
Just for Fun: What is your favorite candy? A place you would love to visit?
My favorite candy is Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate. I buy the large bars and eat them in one sitting—bliss!
There are so many places I’d love to visit. I’m especially drawn to deserts and dramatic coastlines, so anywhere that has one of those would work for me.
What is your favorite television show?
I was a curator at a television museum for about eight years, where I saw enough TV for one lifetime, so I don’t watch too much any more. I sometimes watch shows with real people, as I enjoy a glimpse into other people’s lives. I like Miami Ink, because getting a tattoo is often an emotional decision and the art those guys make is stunning. I also love Pimp My Ride—what’s not to like about a show that glorifies recycling and always has a feel-good happy ending?
