I am delighted to be speaking with
Isabella Jordan today. Thanks for chatting with us today
Isabella!
Thank you. I'm honored to be here. =)
To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Well, I wish I could tell you that I write full time but maybe half-time would be more the truth. I work out of my home as a programmer, I write, spend time with my family, and do charity work. I'm pretty lucky. =)
Did you always want to be a writer?
I think I did. I wasn't always in touch with that. I've always kept a journal, always written little stories. When I was a kid I used to say I was going to be an author one day but I think we all do that. It wasn't until my mid twenties that I decided to try for real.
What is your favorite genre to read and to write?
As a reader, I can't say I have a favorite genre. I love to read. Everything from horror to nonfiction.
As a writer, I've written in a lot of genres and I have to say that contemporary or paranormal with a contemporary setting are my very favorites.
Can you tell us a little about your contemporary romance
Runaway Train?
Runaway Train is part of an AmberPax collection at Amber Quill Press also featuring the very talented Caitlyn Willows, Trixie Stilletto, Adrianna Dane, and Lyndi Lamont.
My story is about a woman who's just sworn off men considering the string of losers who've upended her life the last few years. Within the hour of making that decision she runs into the worst sort of sexy man who makes her rethink things quite a bit. LOL
Is it hard for you to balance your life as a writer? How do you manage it?
It's VERY hard. First of all, I'm a terrible procrastinator. I think of everything I can to avoid writing. LOL
Somehow I do manage it and find I work wonderfully under the gun of a deadline. Oy! LOL
If you could switch places with a heroine from one of your books, who would you chose and why?
Honestly, I wouldn't switch places with any of them because I have a wonderful life. Isn't that sappy? LOL If it could be a temporary thing though I wouldn't mind a weekend with one of the leopard guys... LOL
The Shadow Zone: Taking Julia is coming out soon from Changeling Press, what can you tell us about it?
I'm finishing this one now and I'm pretty excited about it. This new series shows the future of the human race after the cult from my Legion series is done with it. The humans have wiped themselves out to the point that this cult has taken control. This leaves two very old and secret societies - the vampires and the werewolves - wondering about their future in a very real way.
Julia is a werewolf scout sent out into the shadow zone of the human world to try to find a very important secret that they have unearthed. My hero is an very old vampire out to stop her. But not for the reasons she thinks...
You have 3 wishes, what are they?
That my kids grow up to make the world a better place, that I live a life I can look back on one day with pride and laughter, and that folks who take a chance on my stories are really entertained and enjoy them.
When did you start writing? How long did it take you to get published?
I started writing seriously about 12 years ago, believe it or not. I joined RWA, did the critique group thing, and amassed a drawer full of rejection slips from Harlequin and Avon that any writer could be proud of. We started a family in 2000 and I hung it up for a while, until 2003, when the younger one was nearly a year old. (I was busy! LOL) I entered a contest held by Amber Quill Press, the first Amber Heat Wave, and was lucky to have two stories win in that competition. Isabella Jordan was born. =)
Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?
Oh gosh, yes. I love to hear from folks and they have been crucial in the decisions I've made. Take the leopards I've written for Changeling Press. I thought the Eyes of the Leopard series was over with Captive. A fan wrote in and told me no, it didn't feel over to her. She wanted to know they were settled somewhere, safe. Well, darn it, that's how Leopard Tails came about. And I'm so glad it did. It's kind of Cat People meets Twin Peaks! LOL
So I'm so grateful for that reader's thoughts and all of them. They inspire me each and every day.
Can you tell us what you’re currently working on?
I'm finishing up The Shadow Zone: Taking Julia and I'm also working on an archaeology story for another AmberPax collection that I hope readers will like. =)
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I'd love folks to check out the Eyes of the Leopard anthology now on sale. All five of the first series in a print volume available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Okay, enough shameless promo. LOL I'm so not good at that. =)
