Today I am speaking with
Brynn Chapman.
Hello
Brynn and welcome to Fallen Angel Review. Thank you so much for taking time from your busy schedule to spend with us today.
Brynn, I must say I love your website. I read
A Circle of Crows and it was fabulous.
Into the Woods looks like another great story, would you care to tell us about it?
Hi. Thanks for having me. Into the Woods is a Young adult fantasy novel. It takes place in a small village, where all the adults fall into a sleep, a coma. Trees grow out of the sleepers closets and enwrap their bodies in a root coffin, a sarcophagus. A riddle appears on the sleeper's door, written by an invisible hand…STAND SEE CHOOSE REMEMBER. It is then up to four friends to solve the riddle, to free the adults from this mysterious state of slumber.
What would you consider is your favorite part of a book to write?
NO doubt the fantasy sections. I have loved fantasy from the time I was a little girl. I always chose books with a fantastical theme.
Where do you come up with the names for your characters?
LOL! From either baby name books, or specific nationality registers of names, or sometimes after a friend, when they are like, "Hey where is my character?"
From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
I am afraid I have seen a lot of pain and suffering as an adult. I have worked in rehab, geriatric psych and now pediatrics. So often it is my own way of working out my grief towards a certain subject. I always try to have a theme at the heart of the book, that I hope others will find important.
When composing, to you feel the characters live with you as you write? Or ever haunt your dreams?
I haven't dreamt of any yet, but a few times, when I have been stumped with a plot point, I wake up with an AHA! Moment.
What can we expect from you in the future?
OH dear. Well, anything odd I guess. I have very diverse interests. I have four books rolling around in my brain right now. They even have names: The Sanctuary, The Curse of Choice, The Nephilim's Wife, and one I have finished- a sci fi medical thriller called Altered Generation, which is about stem cell cloning. I have a historical thriller, coming out in the fall/winter from Highland Press called The Bride of Blackbeard, as well.
What book for you has been the easiest to write? The hardest? The most fun?
The easiest- Into the Woods. I love young adult writing, I read it for fun myself and feel totally at home there. The hardest, the one I just finished, Altered Generation. I wanted to be sure my stem cell facts were at least grounded in fact, so a friend who works at the University of Pittsburgh, as a stem cell researcher, helped me with those details. And I read about cloning for a year…
If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
The basement of the Louvre.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Just that I love reading (My own TBR pile is ridiculous) I love almost every genre, and if you pick up one of my books, I think you will find something…unique in my view of the world.
You have just received word that Rachel Ray is headed to your house for a meal. What thirty-minute meal will you prepare for her?
OMGosh. Well, she won’t have fun here, as we are all wheat intolerant…so I guess she'll have to make due with gluten free pasta!
Do you have another website other than
www.brynnchapman.com that you would like to share?
I have a myspace that is quite fun…and I blog at both sites from everything from autism to my rants about our time in the morgue in medical school.
I ALSO HAVE TWO YAHOO GROUPS…ONE FOR FICTION, ONE DEDICATED TO THE SUBJECT OF AUTISM, I HAVE A SON RECOVERING FROM THE DISORDER.
For Fun: Do you have a favorite comfort food? Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
Comfort food- coffee…Current favorite vacation spot is St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia.
What is your favorite TV Show?
LOST (can you believe the last one LOL), and That 70's show.
Brynn, I appreciate you taking the time to spend with us today and allowing us to learn a little bit about
Brynn and her sensational stories. I wish you continued success.
