Laura Marie Henion Interview
Hi Laura! And welcome to FAR! Thanks for taking time out to answer some questions for us. The readers are interested to learn what is going on with Laura Marie Henion.
Laura I believe your series, Cop’s Daughter is doing very well. I noticed there are three daughters you speak of in the books, Victoria, Lauren and Grace. Of the three, which would you consider the most difficult to compose, or were they about the same?
First, I would like to thank you for the interview and for wanting to learn more about the COP'S DAUGHTER Series. It is unique in many ways. First, your readers do not have to read the books in any order. They are individual stories about amazing women, each special in their own way. Second, the heroines in each story are not sisters, but, they are individual women engaged in numerous professions such as law enforcement, who share one major similarity…they are daughters of cops.
As a Cop's Daughter, they have a greater insight into the law enforcement field, a deeper incentive to solve crimes, promote self-awareness and training for women. Raised by fathers in law enforcement they were trained, at a very young age to have an understanding that evil people walk the streets, that self-awareness, self defense training and education are key to not becoming a victim.
Of the three books so far, I consider GRACE, Book Three of the Series to have been the most difficult to compose. I continually challenge myself to write stories, plots that get readers thinking. Yes, this is fiction, but how terrible to think that in today's society, such crimes as illegal sex slave businesses, can exist?
The mere idea, that one individual with power, money and a sick obsession could evade capture, hide a multimillion dollar business that degrades women and controls life and death, is sickening.
Were these characters very special to you in some way?
Each COP'S DAUGHTER character is special to me. The first book, COP'S DAUGHTER-VICTORIA, began my series. Victoria is special because she is not in the actual profession of law enforcement, yet, through being a Cop's Daughter, she has that special upbringing, inside motivation to make a difference, adapt, improvise and overcome any barriers in her life. Her father is a police officer, killed in the line of duty. There are no suspects, no leads and it seems that the one responsible will get away with it.
This is unacceptable to Victoria, a professional journalist for a law enforcement magazine. She decides to use her connections and her investigative skills to solve her father's murder. Intense, emotionally trying as Victoria reviews her father's crime scene, the investigative actions by the local police department and comes to the realization that both political and police corruption may have played a role in her father's death. Her job, her life is on the line yet she finds that extra "umph" inside her, that only a Cop's Daughter possesses.
All my heroines have this special "umph" that is displayed throughout the series.
In my series and in my own life, being a Cop's Daughter, I describe what I call that extra "umph" for lack of a better word. It is a unique, powerful, indescribable emotion, connection, skill, incentive that insists we, as Cop's Daughter's, go for it, get the job done and ultimately, in my series, solve the crime, bring justice to victims families and prove that good triumphs over evil.
I noticed there is a bridge behind you in the picture on your bio page; can I ask the name of the bridge? Bridges intrigue me.
Thank you. I have been asked that question before. It is the Bear Mountain Bridge.
What kind of inspiration puts you in the mood to write?
My inspiration comes from the research that I do when I come up with an idea for a story. It could be one small idea, an event, subject that I know little about and once I begin my research, I find the desire to learn more, become educated on the subject which eventually leads to me sharing that research and insight with my readers.
I am a strong believer in Community Awareness, especially for women.
For my May release, COP'S DAUGHTER-LAUREN, I not only had a book signing but I offered a Free Self Defense Training demonstration on sight. I had a few friends of mine, who I had trained with, offer their professional services as a bonus to all those who attended the event.
What is your best part of the book when composing, the beginning, the middle or the end?
I believe that from the time my readers' open the book to begin the story, that I have their attention, their desire to learn more, read on and find out what ultimately happens. I have received numerous e-mails stating such things as, "I couldn't put the book down until I found out what happened to Victoria."
"I stayed at the doctor's office an extra forty five minutes just to finish the book. I didn't want to stop reading."
These e-mails and comments keep me writing and creating unique stories that are sure to keep my readers on the edge of their seats.
I have a phrase that best describes the series for my readers.
"Enter the World of a Cop's Daughter….if you dare….."
Are you presently working on some works in progress?
I am currently working on COP'S DAUGHTER-DIANA Book Four of the Series as well as two other separate manuscripts. I will be releasing LILLIAN'S LOVE in March of 2008 through Lachesis Publishing House. This is a suspense and romance story that takes place in my hometown and surrounding area. I had a lot of fun writing it.
What pulls you into purchasing a book the most, the blurb or the cover?
Definitely the blurb.
How long does it take you to write these wonderful books?
It takes me anywhere from six to 8 months to complete a manuscript.
If you could be granted three wishes, what would they be?
One- For my three children to have safe, happy, healthy, successful and full lives.
Two- Become a best selling author a household name like Nora Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, James Patterson.
Three- To live to meet my Great Grandchildren and actually have some good advice and wisdom to share with them as they just begin their lives.
If you could be a character in any Disney Movie, which movie would you choose?
I would have to say Belle, from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Belle, has a beautiful singing voice, a love of books and an ability to bring out the best in those around her. She is strong, educated and not typical of most princesses.
Do you have a favorite children’s story that you could read over and over?
Little Red Riding Hood. There are so many hidden messages in that story.
For Fun: Do you have a favorite candy bar?
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Do you have a household chore that you really hate doing?
Laundry. It is never ending and if you miss a day it screws you up for the rest of the week.
You wake up one morning to learn you are a famous chef and must prepare a meal for a thousand people. What delicious meal would you cook?
For a thousand people I would make Chicken Parmesan with fresh pasta, Italian bread accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon. They can drink the wine while I'm frying chicken cutlets and making barrels of homemade tomato sauce.
Is this the only website you have or do you have another that you would like to share with your readers? Any Myspace, groups or blogs?
