Hello,
Missy. We are so glad to have you with us for an interview today at Fallen Angel Reviews. The readers are eager to learn about
Missy Jane. Thanks for having me!
Missy, why don’t we begin by discussing your latest release,
They Call Me Death, which is climbing the ladder?
Thank you. I’ve considered They Call Me Death an Urban Fantasy since I first began writing it because the romance was never my main focus. My heroine, Alexia, was in my head speaking through me and I wanted to set out how she evolves as a person. When the hero, Andor, popped in I was still looking through her eyes, and it took a while for the romance to start. However, it does have romantic elements as they learn about each other, so Paranormal Romance isn’t far off the mark.
Do you recall the very first story you ever wrote?
Honestly no, because I was writing stories as a child. I remember making things up and writing them down, but then I stopped during my teenage years and didn’t start again until about six years ago.
What makes a great book to you?
Interesting characters that evolve with the story, especially if it’s a series. I hate to read through a trilogy only to feel as if the hero or heroine haven’t learned a dang thing.
If you could go anywhere, be anyone, do anything for 24 hours, what would it be?
Ooh, great question! Hmm, I think I’d like to do something adventurous like mountain climbing, but I would have to be someone in much better shape than me. Perhaps the cameraman for one of the survival shows. That way I’m not on the side of the camera where everyone could watch me stumble from exhaustion ;)
How many hours a day do you spend writing?
I work a full time job and have children, so realistically I only spend an hour a day on average writing. However, that was my goal when I set down my New Year’s resolutions, so I’m happy.
What is in store for
Missy for the future and do you have works in progress as we speak? I believe you will have one coming out soon with Sapphire Blue Publishing.
Yes! Sapphire Blue was gracious enough to offer me a contract on a contemporary erotica piece that will hopefully be out very soon. I’m also working on the stories of three other characters from Alexia’s world. Most likely Emily and Lance’s story will be next, but it depends on who yells the loudest in my head, he he.
What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
When it comes to writing, Judi McCoy passed on a line she heard from Nora Roberts: Writers write. Simple but effective. Every time I’m feeling lazy I think of that and Judi saying we (writers) need to get our butts in the chair everyday if we want to be successful. She is absolutely right!
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
Quite a bit actually. As a mom and a wife for thirteen years I have a lot of experience with family, but I’ve also worked in a customer service position for fifteen years and have met all types of people. I often draw on those experiences for my characters.
You have 3 wishes, what are they?
1) For my daughters to live long, happy, healthy lives
2) To win the lottery sometime really soon
3) For my husband to workout until he has Jason Statham’s body
Do you have any hobbies?
Well, other than reading, I also love photography and indulge as often as my girls are willing to pose.
Missy, do you have a website or a myspace or blog that you would like to share with your readers?
Yes! msmissyjane.com. I’m on myspace and twitter as ms_missyjane, and on Facebook as ms.missyjane.
Is there anything that frightens you like heights, spiders, or anything like that?
I’m not at all afraid of spiders or snakes, and when it comes to heights only unprotected heights scare me. I’ve been in a helicopter and did just fine but don’t ask me to climb a ladder.
You are invited for a three day weekend to go fishing with your editor for a fishing tournament, would you agree to go?
Sure, but I’d have a camera in hand rather than a fishing pole. I’ve tried but never caught a thing in my life.
Your editor phones and insists you throw a party for twenty guests to celebrate the release of your book. You are supposed to prepare a delicious meal, what would be on the menu?
Mm, I love to cook for parties! I’d probably prepare some finger foods like mini quiche and spinach dip with pita bread. Depending on the guests I might bully my hubby into making a brisket (his is awesome), or bacon wrapped shrimp kabobs. I LOVE veggies, so there would definitely be a tray of raw veggies or I’d steam some.
What is your favorite spot to travel?
I love road trips and living in Texas there’s more than enough room to jump in the truck and go for hours. Every spring my girls and I head up into the hill country to see the wildflowers. My favorite spot is in Brenham.
Missy, thank you so much for taking time to answer some questions for us. I wish you the best in your writing and look forward to your books.
Thanks for having me, I sincerely appreciate it!
