Ava Rose Johnson Interview

I am delighted to be speaking with Ava Rose Johnson today. Thanks for chatting with us today Ava.
Thank you for having me!

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Well, I've been writing for a few years in a genre I adore - erotic romance. I have a day job working in an office, but as soon as 5pm hits I go into author mode. To date I'm published with a number of e-publishers including Loose Id, Liquid Silver, Phaze and Cobblestone. I've also recently signed a contract with Ellora's Cave which I'm very excited about! When I'm not working or writing, I'm walking the dog or catching up on Bones and Grey's Anatomy.

Can you tell us a little about your current release Beauty and the Beasts?
Beauty and the Beasts is a very fun, very sexy werewolf ménage. It's set in the fictional land of The Quartet - a set of four magical kingdoms. I hope to set more stories there, turning it into a series.

What does your work space look like?
A mess! I recently bought a new desk - a huge creation of black glass and tricky shelving. It's already invisible beneath a mountain of loose pages, pens, DVDs, books, CDs and electronic items.

Do you have any special rituals to help you get in the mood to write?
Candles, a glass of wine, perhaps some jazz when I'm writing a love scene (which is pretty often considering I write erotic romance!) I also have a huge cushion that I have to put behind me if I want to get in the zone.

Do you have any bad writing habits?
Procrastination and over-analyzing what I write. I'd get so much more done if I stopped worrying that what I've written isn't good enough. There's plenty of time for editing once you've got the finished product.

Which of your characters in Beauty and the Beasts is most like you? Is there a character you wish you could be for a day?
Abigail, the heroine, is quite like me. She's stubborn and likes to pretend she's prim and proper. In reality, she's a bad girl at heart!

I'd love to be Abigail for the day. She has two werewolf lovers, each as sinfully hot as the other. Yup, I'd definitely like a shot at that :)

We all have one, so tell us yours. What is your favorite comfort food?
Oh my God, where do I start? Do I have to pick just one? Okay, the main one would be cookie dough ice-cream. But I'm also a sucker for muffins, chocolate, lemon meringue pie, pizza, Chinese food, macaroni cheese…the list is endless!

What is the one thing you've always wanted to do but never had the courage / opportunity to try?
Travel around the world. There are so many places I want to visit. This summer I hope to check out Asia or Australia and after that, I'll work my way down through the list.

Is there a movie character that you think is your cinematic twin?
Personality-wise, Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail is very like me. She's quirky, a little silly and she overanalyzes everything!

Can you tell us a little about your upcoming works?
I've just finished work on a sequel to Beauty and the Beasts. I'll also have an m/m futuristic released with Ellora's Cave later this year so watch this space.

What tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?
Vitamins, caffeine, music, a lap-top. Ooh, and a thesaurus!

Describe yourself in 5 words.
Hard-working, silly, happy, curious and excited :)
