Donna Grant Interview

Hello Donna! It is really great to have you with us today at Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for taking time to answer some questions for us. The readers are eager to learn more about Donna Grant, the author of historical paranormal and dark fantasy romance.

If a reporter were to insist upon taking a tour of your life, what would they see in the day of Donna?
A woman who struggles to get it all done and feel like she’s accomplished something.

They would see me, tired and cranky, as I get out of bed to get the kids ready for bed as hubby is getting breakfast together. They would see me try not to drink the entire can of Coke to wake up. After hubby leaves to take kids to school they would see me work out, make myself fill up my water bottle and drink that instead of finishing the Coke with my breakfast.

Then, while I’m munching on my breakfast bar, they would see me answer emails, do some promoting, and pulling up my book to write. For the next few hours, they would see me pounding away on the keyboard (and only checking emails every once in awhile).

Once my pages are done, they would see me choose between cleaning or reading (reading always wins!) before I have to go get the kids and start running the roads for after school activities.

Then its back home in time for dinner, make sure homework is done, and get the kids ready for bed before finally collapsing on the coach with hubby for a glass of wine and our favorite TV shows or a movie.

Donna, I believe you have a new release, Mutual Desire. Why not tell us something about this newest release that will sweep us away, allow us to get lost in, and believe the magic?
MUTUAL DESIRE is a collection of three novellas that will take you from the Highlands of Scotland to a fantasy land to the Amazon.
In a world where men and women indulge in sensual delights, the most gratifying unions occur when mutual longings and attraction come together. Here, three women find intense pleasure as they satisfy their deepest desires...
SPELLBOUND
Kate is a Scottish temptress who wants nothing but her freedom. When she is married against her will to a powerful laird, she vows to deny him - until his scorching touch unleashes primal urges she cannot control...
ENTHRALLED
The beautiful Linarra is sent to her tribe's archenemy as a peace offering, her body to be used as his sexual plaything. Once her new master claims her, Linarra discovers insatiable cravings that send her to the brink of wild ecstasy...
ENCHANTED
During an Amazonian adventure, willful Princess Arian is kidnapped and presented as an erotic prize for a jungle warlord, who turns her captivity into a sensual journey that awakens her body's most carnal demands...

Do you do an outline or just go with the flow?
I just go with the flow. If I outline the book, in my mind, it’s written, and I can’t write it then.

How do you keep your ideas fresh and imaginative?
I really have no idea. I write about the characters that get me excited to tell their stories.

Are any of your personality and life experiences in your writing?
Every author draws on their own experiences when they write, either subconsciously or consciously, so I’d have to say yes. I’m deathly afraid of spiders, so when one of my characters had that fear, it was quite easy to know how she would react.

How many hours a day do you spend writing?
I spend anywhere from 4-6 hours a day actually writing, and the other hours doing promoting, interacting with readers, driving my kids around, and cooking when it’s my turn.

Are there any other upcoming projects that you are working on?
I’m working on book three of my new series, the Dark Sword series, debuting January 2010 with St. Martin’s Press, DANGEROUS HIGHLANDER. Book two, FORBIDDEN HIGHLANDER, and book three, WICKED HIGHLANDER, will also release in 2010.

Is there anything special you do to get you in the mood to write?
When you’ve written with an infant in your lap and a toddler at your feet, you learn to just write when you can. I do like to turn on my writing music that will consist of soundtracks from movies like Lord of the Rings, King Arthur, and Troy, as well as Celtic/Scottish music.

If someone were writing a story about Donna, what type of character would describe you?
A loyal, somewhat conservative character who is sassy and can have a bit of a temper she inherited from her Cajun side of the family.

While growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border I read you have a Cajun, ‘spicy’ side of life to your roots. Good Housekeeping would like to use one of your recipes to make a meal to go on the cover of their magazine. What would you grace the readers with on the front page?
I would share a Cajun dish of either crawfish etouffee or jambalaya.

You are given three wishes. What would you wish for?
Hmmm...a hard one. I’d have to say:

1. Good health, contentment, and true love for all of my descendents
2. To never have to worry about money again
3. An end to all pollution for our planet

If you were to plan a honeymoon, tell us what it would consist of?
Somewhere tropical with white sandy beaches and clear, turquoise waters. Lots of pampering with a private beach and pool.

If you were given a choice to spend a day at the spa, or have a maid for a day, which would you choose?
Without a doubt, the maid. I love a sparkling clean house, but with two kids (three if you include my hubby), three cats, and one long-haired Chihuahua, my house never stays clean for long.
