Isabelle Rose Interview

This morning I have the pleasure of speaking to Isabelle Rose. Hello Isabelle, it is so good to have you with us today at Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to speak with us today.

Hello, Linda. Thank you so much for having me here.

Isabelle, why not take the readers into what a day is like for Isabelle, after she awakes?

Well, I have quite a busy schedule, especially now that I have a 9 month old baby boy. Once I’m done taking care of him in the morning and he takes a nap I try to do as much writing as humanly possible. Right now I’m working on putting together an anthology of rewritten fairy tales with an amazing group of authors titled Twisted Fairy Tales. Imagine your favorite fairy tale but in different genres like horror, science fiction and erotica. So I’m very excited about this project.

I’m also working on a few short stories for other anthologies, as well as a novel based on the Greek Myth of Hades, Persephone and Demeter.

Under the Moonlight, I like the precept and premise of the storyline, why not tell us a little more about the story? And congrats on the review.

Under the Moonlight started out as a short story about a female detective that gets bitten by a serial killer who also happens to be a werewolf. The story intrigued me to the point where I couldn’t sleep because I just couldn’t get the main character, Morgan Carbone, out of my head. So I started writing a novel with Morgan in mind and ended up with Under the Moonlight, which also introduced the character of Elizabeth Bathory, who was one of the first female serial killers of the late 1500’s and 1600’s. I’ve always been intrigued with Bathory. I did some research on her and discovered a lot of the terrible and gruesome things she did while she was alive.

What drew you to this type of genre?

I wanted the challenge. I wanted to write something I’d never written before. Most of the fiction I write is mainly erotica, and/or fantasy (leaning towards magical realism). And I surprised myself by being able to finish a horror novel and actually give it a somewhat twisted yet happy ending.

What does your working space look like? Are you an organized person?

Oh God no. *laughs* My desk is horrible. There are papers everywhere. The only way I can find anything is because I know what order everything is stacked up.

What does the future look like for Isabelle?

I hope to continue writing for as long as possible. I would like to explore other genres like science fiction, mystery, maybe write another horror novel. Who knows what the future holds? I just hope I’m holding a pen and a notebook until the day I die.

What is your favorite part of a book to write, the beginning, middle or ending, or all three?

The beginning, because things are still new and exciting. The middle is a challenge sometimes, because even though I have an idea as to how the story will end, I still have to get my characters to that point. But the middle is fun because you can mess with your characters and see how they make their way out of a situation.

What is the biggest false impression about being an author?

Whenever I tell people I’m a writer they assume that I spend all my time drinking, smoking and being depressed. I’m actually a very cheerful person, sarcastic to a fault but generally happy. And I don’t smoke or drink. The one vice I do have is spending way too much time in the bookstore.

Do you have one habit you know you’ll never change?
Buying books. That’ll never ever change. I love feeling a brand new book in my hands and the feel of paper on my fingertips. Love it.

What is your favorite movie of all time that you can sit and watch again and again?

That would have to be Into the Woods. It’s a musical that was on Broadway. My husband and I went to see it on our second date and we shared our first kiss that night. So anytime I want to reminisce I’ll put the DVD on and watch it. I know it’s very cheesy but what can I say? I’m a romantic at heart.

What is your all time favorite food or dessert that you can never grow tired of?

Chocolate. Love, love, LOVE chocolate.

Is there anything else that you would like to add, Isabelle?

I’ve also written three other books.

Naughty Fairy Tales
The Jackets
And The Laurel

What Disney character best describes you and your life?

Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Mostly because she’s a dreamer and spends most of her time with a book.

Again, thank you Isabelle, so very much for taking time to speak with us today. I wish you the best in all your great works and look forward to more delights in the future.

Thank you so much for having me. This was a lot of fun.
