Violette Dubrinsky Interview

I am delighted to be speaking with Violette Dubrinsky today. Thanks for chatting with us today Violette!

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm a twenty-two and three-quarter year old female who enjoys good stories, regardless of the forms they take. I love reading, watching movies, playing games and making up stories, stories around the camp-fire...You get my drift. I'm a big fan of stories. I also love a good laugh, so if the story is filled with funny characters, that's even better.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I think I've always wanted that at heart. Only a few days ago, I found a story I'd written when I was thirteen. It was about fifty pages long, and there was even an author's note. It was very cute.

When did you start writing? How long did it take you to get published?
I started writing very early on. I would say probably ten or eleven. My serious attempts at writing didn't quite begin until my freshman year of college when I found a site with free stories and decided to try my hand at them.
It took me about three or four months to get Fallen published. I've been in the 'trying-to-get-published' business though, on and off, for about a year.

Do your fans' comments and letters influence you in any way?
Absolutely. I adore comments. I think most author's love comments because it shows that people appreciate the time and effort you put into creating stories for them. For years, I wrote and uploaded my writings to free sites, and my motivation for continuing was the comments. Even if it was a critique, I found myself analyzing the part being critiqued to see if I would find it applicable.

What is your favorite genre to read and to write?
I have two favorite genres that absolutely rival each other. I love romance and I love fantasy. Naturally, I am huge fan of fantasy romance, and if Warrior and its sequels are published, you'll get to read some of my fantasy romance.

Can you tell us a little about your newest release Fallen: The Tale of a Dark God?
Fallen is the first story in the "Dark God Tales." It focuses on Thanatos, the God of Death, who has been cursed to live as a human indefinitely after offending Hera. As the end of a century draws near, Thanatos decides to take matters into his own hands and do something about it. Doing something about it entails going to the Monster's Ball to have a much needed conversation with Zeus, where he meets Simone Randall, a human female who fascinates him, and distracts him from the task at hand. Fallen is filled with humor, angry gods and goddesses, and of course...lots of romance.

What was the most challenging part of writing Fallen: The Tale of a Dark God? The most rewarding?
The most challenging part of writing Fallen was creating a believable scenery as related to these gods. I researched a bit for this story, and found Nyx and Erebos and their children and was so fascinated that I immediately decided to go with them.

The most rewarding part of writing Fallen was finishing it, and tying up loose ends. I always feel ecstatic after finishing a story.

If you could switch places with a heroine from one of your books, who would you chose and why?
If I could switch places with a heroine, I would switch places with Jaisyn St. Ives from Warrior, an unpublished (but hopefully soon-to-be published) novel. Why? Because I think every girl who watched Disney has hopes of being a princess someday, and while Jaisyn is a princess, she can wield a sword with the best of them. : I enjoyed creating her character about as much as I enjoyed creating her hero.

You have 3 wishes, what are they?
If I had three wishes, I'd wish that I won the lottery so that I could retire from the job I now have, move to a cozy place, perhaps a cottage, and write for the rest of my life. Wish 2 would be that I live a long, healthy life, filled with laughter and happiness. Wish 3 would be to create a series or series that many people enjoy.

Can you tell us what you're currently working on?
I'm currently working on five stories. Two are soon to be completed, two are being edited, and one is just getting started. : I will say that the next story you see from me will more than likely include my very friendly (note sarcasm) set of werewolves. And yes, the story that I'm now starting is the sequel to Fallen, which delves into the life and love of another dark god.

If you could leave your readers with one legacy, what would you want it to be?
If I could leave one legacy it would be a legacy of timeless romance stories.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Thank you so much for interviewing me! If you'd like to read Fallen, it is available at Beautiful Trouble Publishing.
