Daughter of the Stone

Humans abducted from Earth are to become the chattel for an alien race, yet something goes dangerously wrong and this new breed of men soon find themselves “free” in a world not of their choosing. Somehow they must find a way to survive.

Dwinn Somuron knows only the Always Dark. For generations her kind has lived in this land of no lights and no future. History states that when her people landed on this world nothing but the Always Dark could support them. The rulers claim that all those that remained in the Beyond, perished. Yet, something within her hints that there is more. Her family line has always believed in the legend of Herreth’s stone and in the salvation, which the Beyond offers. Dwinn is determined to escape the oppression that stalks the Always Dark and find the stone. However, a chance meeting with Lusaar Gursenni has her questioning all she has planned as those around her embark on a mission that might change the world as she knows it. Is the Beyond the harsh world purported in history, or is there something to the legends that hold the Beyond as a world where her people might truly find the freedom they were granted hundreds of years ago?

Daughter of the Stone is a compelling tale that is sure to delight Sci-Fi fans. The author has imbued this story with descriptions and narratives that make the world come alive. Ms. Heath has spent time developing the nuances of the people and settings in order to make them believable to the reader. Due to the depth of this story and the history that is needed in order to understand all the events of the present, there are times when the plot is consuming and long. However, this in no way detracts from the story. The author keeps the plot moving with the characters’ constant struggle to overcome the tyranny closing in around them and the emotional growth they experience as they learn the truth of their forefathers. This work is filled with moments rich in emotion. Her style of combing emotion and action with detailed descriptions ensures that readers will become entranced with Dwinn’s mission and keep reading to see if Herreth’s stone and the Beyond exist and how they might factor into the future.
