Ann Jacobs’ telling of forbidden love has an erotic flare. The pleasure Giles receives from Star is described in graphic, erotic detail. Whereas the focus of the story is on Giles and Star, there is one scene where they are joined by a third person that the faint of heart might not appreciate. The scene does not detract from the story and remains true with the plot and offers insight into the life that Star has chosen. Even through the haze of passion, Ms. Jacobs hints at emotions that surpass sheer lust. The characters are straightforward with very little hidden beneath their depths. The interaction between them is consistent with their characterization. At the same time readers are experiencing their passion, they will bear witness to the growth of the characters from lovers to something more. As Giles and Star discover the depth of passion between them, the future looms uncertainly before them. The author has captured their hesitancy and hope, and offers re! aders a quick, erotic read that heats the pages.
