Hunter’s Moon
Hunter’s Moon, the second offering in Lori Handeland’s world of werewolves and Jager-Suchers, is an absorbing, fast-paced story that will keep readers enthralled from start to finish.
Leigh Tyler once lived for the joy she could bring to children’s faces. She dreamed of white picket fences and happily ever after. Now she lives only to kill those that destroyed her dreams.
When she is called to Wisconsin, Leigh expects the same work as always, killing as many werewolves as possible. Instead she is confronted with a situation that may prove too much for even the best hunter. Something is out there gaining power; feeding on the very werewolves she is trying to destroy. As she tries to make sense of this latest threat, she must also deal with the hazard the enigmatic stranger, Damien Fitzgerald poses to her heart. At a time when her focus should be on hunting her enemies, emotions come to life that could very well cause her and Damien’s deaths.
Lori Handeland has an understated talent for bringing to life a vivid world that encompasses the good and bad that exists within society. Hunter’s Moon lets readers revisit the characters from Blue Moon while at the same time introducing them to additional, memorable characters. The realism of the main characters is impressive. From their dialogue and emotions, to their insecurities and fears, they are believably crafted. Through them, the author draws the reader in and allows them to experience a gamut of emotion. I appreciate the dimension with which this story was constructed. There is a lot of information presented as the investigation continues. Yet at no time does the reader feel bogged down as they discover all the elements that comprise Leigh and Damien’s pasts and how their experiences impact the threat they are facing.
Hunter’s Moon is a paranormal delight. The author has a unique ability to balance tension with the dry wit and interaction of the characters. The story picks up where Blue Moon left off, but this work can definitely be read alone. However, once you read this, you won’t be able to help going back and reading the first. This reviewer can’t wait to read the next in this series.
