Marya has a death sentence hanging over her head; she is a descendant of vampire hunters and as such is a threat to the vampire community. For the last twelve years, she's known that she cannot make any plans for her life. When she meets Drago, he tells her that he is there to give her the last test to see if she lives or dies. She is surprised when he gives her life, only to find out days later he has rescinded the verdict, or so she is told. When Drago comes to protect her from his enemies, she finds things aren't always the way she was told they were. The feelings Marya has towards Drago go against everything she has been taught. How could she want to be around the Undead, especially since they had killed her father?

Drago, given a job that a lesser enforcer should have gotten, meets Marya, an aberration born of a dhampir and a human. Drago knows that he is supposed to impose death on her, but it amuses him to give her life. After getting a call, he finds that she is being used as a pawn to have him killed. He has to protect her and find out who used her. Marya calls to him in ways he thought he'd never feel. Being five hundred years old and never feeling love, he's unprepared for all that she means to him.

This is Drago's story, one that takes the reader into what has made him into the type of enforcer that is both feared and hated. A story that readers will relish and want to share with others. Ms. Roycraft's second novel in the series is just as highly entertaining as her first. She gives us more details into the vampire community and of course into the life of one Alek Dragovich, l'enforcier. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series and from this author.
