The Portrait
Shari is at the museum to think, to relax, not to be picked up by the guy standing behind her, even if he does take her breath away. She knows she needed to make a decision about her and Hank, she walks away from the man who wants to talk. Shari can feel eyes on her as she's standing in front of the painting; when she turns around, she realizes the man from before has followed her. Something about him makes her want to take the risk, especially when she realizes who he is. He's the man she had a crush on in college, but was too scared to talk to him. Now's her chance to have lunch with him, catch up on how he is and see where he might be going.
John had noticed her in college, with her locker right next to his how could he not. Shari has become a beautiful woman and he wants her. During their lunch and catch up, he knows deep down she's not gorgeous, but still she's everything he's ever wanted in a woman. Hopefully, he can make her understand he doesn't want a one time thing with her.
Ms. Morelli has packed a lot in her short 18 page story. Her characters show a depth that will make them believable to readers. There is a scene between Shari and Hank that shows how strong she is and how she deals with the situation. Within these few short pages, there are multiple scenes that stand out as well as being noteworthy.
