That Devil Moon
Madeleine Woodbridge Harris (“Maddie”) is the assistant principal of the Beaver Cove (Arkansas) High School. One summer night she is restless and sleepless from too much chocolate and three Loretta Young movies. In an effort to calm down, she takes a dip in the lake near her home.
Phil Wilcox, former football star, has returned to his boyhood home of Beaver Cove to take the job of football coach at the high school. One of his motives is to try to build a relationship with his eleven-year-old daughter, even though his ex-wife has tried to turn his daughter against him. On this night, angry that his ex-wife has cancelled his visitation with his daughter at the last minute, Phil decides to calm down by fishing for a while at the lake. What happens under that devil moon?
I really liked this book. The complex plot is well-written and engaging – the reader is drawn into the action early on and isn’t released until the end. I also liked the fact that not is all goodness and light in Beaver Cove. The town has its share of low-lifes and criminals, which adds some suspense into the mix. The characters seemed like real people, especially Phil and Maddie, although the secondary characters are also well developed and interesting. The love scenes are sensual and emotional, without explicit language. I definitely recommend this book to lovers of contemporary romance.
