The Ex-Files: Maddie Got Run Over by a Reindeer

Our friend Maddie Blake has received a proposal from her boyfriend Cole. It’s not that Maddie doesn’t love Cole, but because of her previous bad marriage to the infamous Albert, she is very, very leery of making that commitment again. In a tizzy, Maddie heedlessly runs out into a snowstorm and is blind-sided by a sleigh-snatching elf out for an illegal spin with Santa’s reindeer and rig. Not knowing what else to do, the elf rescues her and carries her back to – where else? – the North Pole. No, I’m not going to tell you any more ... it would spoil the Christmas surprise!

I thought this short story (29 pages) was a really funny, short read – perfect for Christmas Eve. Maddie is one of my favorite characters from the Ex-Files series and I was quite happy with her development in this installment. The author’s style in this one is light and humorous, with little of the serious background that has gone into the previously published parts of the series. The story was not extremely graphic, although there is one short sex scene that is quite explicit, but also quite unexceptionable. I don’t want to give away much about the story and the other characters; suffice it to say that this little Christmas story is charming and fun, just as you’d think a “Hot Toddy” would be.
