Wanting More
After working late, Brianna Holmes leaves her office and walks out to her car in the parking garage. It is usually deserted by the time Brianna leaves for the night, but tonight the isolation feels ominous. Just before making it to her car, Brianna is attacked and dragged into the freight elevator by a man with a knife. She puts up a fight and, in the scuffle, she is seriously wounded. Just before she passes out from loss of blood, she sees another man enter the elevator and begin to fight her attacker. When Brianna regains consciousness, she is in a bedroom at the estate of millionaire Dayton Vandamere. The people in the house tell her that she is there to recover from her wounds, but prevent her from leaving when she wants to. Brianna is confused and upset when she discovers this. Who was the man who attacked her and was it really just a random occurrence? Who is Dayton Vandamere, and why is he keeping her imprisoned?
This is an excellent suspense novel and I quite enjoyed it. It is heavy on the suspense, and light on the romance. This is a dark novel in which everything is not happiness and light, so be prepared. The author has a good, straightforward style that works well for this genre, and keeps the plot moving very fast throughout the novel, with no flat or slow scenes. The conflict between the hero and heroine is well written and believable. Brianna is very independent and does not turn into a wilting flower and depend on a man to tell her what to do after her attack, while Dayton keeps trying to dominate her and tell her what to do. This would definitely get me riled, and it riles Brianna. It is very refreshing to see a heroine stick to her guns when she’s treated like a kid!
There are very few sex scenes in this novel, and the ones that are included are described in sensual terms that are not graphic at all. However, this story contains several scenes of violence directed at women that are described in a detailed and graphic manner. If that sort of thing bothers you, you might want to steer clear of this one. On the other hand, I do think this novel is one of the better romantic suspense novels I’ve read this year and recommend it to aficionados of the genre.
