A Visit from Sir Nicholas
Lady Elizabeth Effington had once given a gift of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens to Nicholas Collingsworth. She had hoped this would be the perfect gift for the man she was in love with, although her parents and most others had already planned her marriage to Charles Langley. However when Elizabeth gave the gift to Nicholas he accepted the gift but refused her love and broke her heart. Leaving her to marry Charles while he pursued a business adventure in America.
Nicholas Collingsworth had left England to prove to himself that he could build his own fortune without the help of his beloved uncle’s fortune. He had left behind the one woman he loved, but felt justified in doing so because he knew Charles Langley would give her the life Nicholas could not. However life had not gone for Elizabeth as he had hoped and now ten years later he finds himself back in England to look after her and to claim his family name.
Elizabeth presently has taken control of her own existence for the first time in her life, and when Nicholas shows up to fulfill his duties in caring for her, she does not accept him with open arms. Can Elizabeth get over the hurt and pain, which first Nicholas then Charles inflicted, in order to start a new?
