Sex and the Serial Killer
When fifteen years of marriage becomes nothing but history, Roberta Jones Spivey decides that she no longer wants to be ‘Spineless Roberta’. She changes her hair, her wardrobe, her name and her attitude, and then moves from the big city to Cottonmouth, whose newest citizen just happens to be her almost-ex-husband. She plans to show Wayne what he is missing. She decides to buy a quaint cottage on a quiet street. So what if there is a serial killer living across the street from her? Roberta Spivey would faint before living next to someone like this, Bobbie Jones however, decides to cook him lasagna. Bobbie finds that small town life has its benefits, as well as its drawbacks. Getting close to Nick Angel, previously mentioned serial killer neighbor, is a lot harder than it should be.
The good citizens of Cottonmouth never considered Nick Angel...well, an angel; however, his famed exploits have grown considerable in the telling. This has left him ostracized in his own hometown. One drama after another has caused him to keep to himself. That is until the sexy lady next door comes a knocking. His surly defenses make no dent in her cheerful campaign to win her way into his bed. The trouble is, Nick no longer wants to tell her no.
A horrible incident, with far reaching capabilities shakes the town. And who is the first person blamed for all tragedies? Nick. Bobbie finds herself in a quandary. Whom should she help? The man that she’s known for over fifteen years, who dumped her like yesterdays news for his high school flame? Or the sexy dark haired Angel who sets her aflame?
Sex and the Serial Killer is at turns hilarious and touching. Bobbie Jones has to start over after Wayne leaves her for Cookie (or as Bobbie refers to her, the Cookie Monster). Instead of staying at the dead-end job that Wayne chose for her, she changes her looks and her name, trades in his sensible BMW for a flamboyant VW Bug and moves to small town Cottonmouth to make him realize exactly whom he ditched. Living across the street from sexy bad boy Nick Angel is definitely a perk. Nick is dark and moody, but still waters run deep and this is the case for this misunderstood rebel. Ms. Skully has created a cast of characters that will stay with you long after you finish the book. I laughed aloud at Bobbie’s antics as a waitress in the local greasy spoon, The Cooked Goose. Ms. Skully must be drawing from personal experiences; her view of small town life is true to form. A delightfully wicked jaunt about a sexy soon-to-be divorcee, Sex and the Serial Killer is a must read for those of you who like your characters sexy and your romance to walk on the wild side.
