Silent Fire

Lavina has been working on her thesis and is in search of one last piece of evidence, the Stone of Redemption. To do this, she has been working with a coven and has convinced them that she is the most powerful witch on the West coast. She’s so close to discovering it, and then Ian comes along looking for the same thing. She’s not about to share her work, even if she’s attracted to him.

Ian’s been looking for the Stone of Redemption, and has come up to Washington State in the course of his search. He’s very attracted to Lavina, and if she would just work with him a little he could help her find what she’s looking for, and they both would be happy. Now all he has to do is convince her that he’s not out to steal her work, but to save himself.

Silent Fire is a great story with funny dialogue and interesting characters throughout. Lavina starts out condescending and arrogant, sure in her superiority to the people she is working with. Ian comes across as a player that has little concern for people. As the story moves on though, you find yourself liking both characters more and more, as you find out about what shapes them into the people they are. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this story, but as it went on I found myself wanting to know what happens next, and hoping that Lavina and Ian got together and made it work. There are some very interesting secondary characters in Silent Fire that make the whole thing come together and work, and by the end of it you are cheering everyone on and believing in magic. Fiona MacLeod is a writer that I will definitely be on the look out for from now on.
