"Do you believe in love at first sight?"

This is the question asked to southern belle Jessica Amanda Templeton by her soon-to-be husband, Union Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Hastings. The two meet and marry with an almost improper haste, but the War Between the States has changed much, and will change more yet before it is over.

Andrew, orphaned at an early age, was raised by his aunt and uncle in Maine and craves the warmth of a true family's love. He joins the Army and quickly rises in rank as his abilities develop. It is on one of his assignments that he meets Jessie and they marry, settling down in New Orleans to serve as an intelligence agent for the North.
Jessie has always known the love of her close family and the security of her ancestral home. She falls head over heels for Andrew and, despite their polar opposite heritage, their relationship flourishes until war takes him far from her.

When Andrew is called away to serve his regiment, Jessie is left behind to try to make a life without him until he returns - if he returns. The secret she has kept from him has serious and lasting consequences; the horrors that she endures in his absence could break her will or take her very life. Andrew is ordered back and forth across enemy lines and soon becomes a trusted advisor to General Grant, enabling him to come when he receives bad news: Jessie has been taken, kidnapped by a band of rogue deserters. Can he find her or will he lose everything he holds dear in life, his angel?

Chase for an Angel is a story of abiding love, heart-wrenching loss and the unspeakable monsters wartime creates. This reader very much enjoyed the flowing dialogue found in Chase for an Angel. Ms. Poff's narrative style draws a reader into her stories, and spins a web of a time gone, yet not forgotten. This book, however, is not for the faint-hearted, having multiple extremely graphic rape and mutilation scenes, as well as erotic love scenes.
