Honor Among Thieves
K.D. Axtell is a man who loves his young son, Roddy. When his boy is kidnapped on a silver raid gone bad, he must use every weapon in his considerable arsenal to get him back. Together with his friend, Fergus, K.D. sets out to find Roddy.
Honor McCrae is a woman running from her past. She has set out on a journey to find her brother, Fergus, in order to claim her inheritance. She is a feisty baggage, opinionated and totally unsuited for the harsh realities of life in the uncivilized Southwest. When K.D. turns up, he holds her at gunpoint and makes quite a first impression when he steals her purse. Honor then becomes embroiled in a confusing, complex situation in which she doesn’t know who to trust. The line between friend and enemy is increasingly blurred; can she rely on her intuition? When she is brought to her brother’s ranch and meets a pregnant sister-in-law she didn’t know she had, more questions arise: Where is her brother? Who are these men running his place? Will she get out of this with her life?
The sparks fly in this well-written, entertaining western. The plight of slaves in the Southwest, kidnapped and sold at whim, is explored and ties in well to the story. Honor Among Thieves was a little slow starting out, but progressed nicely and soon I was hooked. Ms. Moore has a wonderful grasp of the culture and customs of this historical era, and her descriptions and scenarios hit the bull’s-eye for accuracy and enjoyment in this work. Honor and K.D. find themselves drawn increasingly closer to each other, in spite of their reservations, and band together to attempt to save the day for their families. Honor Among Thieves proves to be a great read!
