Into His Arms
When a man without God finds Faith he can never go back…
Raised in a strict Puritan village, Faith Cooper lived her life strictly and always according to God’s word. She was cherished by her parents and brothers, had always been a dutiful daughter, returning their love with her actions and obedience. Her parents had agreed with her choice of a husband when their minister stepped in and insisted that because Faith was an uncontrollable temptress she must marry him instead. He intended to treat her firmly and thwart any behaviors that he thought were disobedient. His lecherous overbearing nature made Faith more than just uncomfortable, so she is in disbelief when her father, Jonathan reluctantly agrees with the minister. Faith’s mother, Naomi wished that Faith could be sent to her sister in Jamaica, but because Jonathan considered her to be an immoral Catholic, it would not be possible. After hearing of a ship departing for Jamaica shortly, Faith takes matters into her own hands and runs away. The full force of her impulsive actions and “cursed willfulness” hits Faith when she stows away on a ship filled with sleeping men and rats.
She is eventually brought to the attention of Captain Geoffrey Hampton. Geoff is a handsome privateer, definitely not God-fearing and very rough around the edges. He assures his men that he will not take advantage of the pure miss, at least not without her permission. Faith understands that the Captain’s cabin is her only safe haven onboard, but naively believes that her faith will never change and that she will not be shamed by this man…
More than just another historical romantic tale, Paula Reed infuses this story with some excellent and very open-minded religious philosophy as she brings together two soul mates from opposite sides of life. The conversion of a lost soul to a man who finds faith and loses it through ignorance is more than heart-warming. The young Puritan Faith is given pause to question her own beliefs and embrace new ones. She is sure that lovemaking is a gift from God and sticks firmly with this even when her lover ridicules her. Their lovemaking is erotic and quite graphic, more than enough to turn the thoughts of the uninitiated to sin. The greatest act of love comes when readers will least expect it and it gave this reader goosebumps. If you are looking for a story that will draw you in right from the first chapter to the last, sharing in the triumphs, lows and laughs you are sure to love this one. Into His Arms has a place on my keeper shelf; I look forward to Paula Reed’s next release.
