Hard Day’s Knight

Pepper is unemployed, unattached and looking for love. She travels with her cousin, CJ, and her aunt and uncle’s demon cat Moth, short for Behemoth, to Canada for a Renaissance Faire. Being a new Wench, she hopes that she will be swept off her feet by a, you guessed it, knight in shining armor. Not only does she become the paramour of a knight, but she discovers that her self-image could use a little work. Watch as Pepper works to become a jouster, tries to solve a mystery all the while wearing a bodice that gives her a ‘boob shelf’. How fun is that?

This was yet another wonderful book by Katie MacAlister. She skillfully weaves a tale with humor, sensitivity, sex, and the reality of a Ren Faire. I have a few friends who enjoy this pastime, but never got to fully appreciate it as I did while reading this book. Ms. MacAlister describes things and explains events so that you are there. You see things through her characters’ eyes and just ‘get’ it. The hero in this story is a beloved type of character, a good man with a past to overcome, and the heroine is a quirky woman with low self-esteem. I enjoyed watching them try to heal each other and I’m sure you will too.
