What Do You Say to a Naked Elf?

When Jane Drysdale was driving home from a Realm of Pleasures party, the last thing she thought would happen, happened! Trying to avoid hitting a rabbit who morphed into a man, (did she really see that happen?), caused her to crash into a tree. After being pulled out of the car and having her merchandise saved, Jane was informed that she was going to Sylthia to stand trial for the death of the bunny. Ends up that the bunny was actually an elf that had shape-shifted to evade capture from Charlie and his band of elves.

Charlie is a half-elf, half-fairy, lawyer who has been given the unenviable job of defending Jane in her trial. Jane is locked up in the castle and finds that there are problems everywhere in Sylthia, from the dreaded enemy, the Dymynsh, to a cross-dressing king. Join Jane and Charlie as they try to keep her from being killed and try to save the world, all the while attempting to deny their feelings for one another.

I loved this book. Ms Sterling does a great job with the characters and the settings. You almost believe that you could walk through a portal just like Jane did. The love story is fun, but the underlying menace of the Dymynsh is what really made this a fantastic tale. Dealing with another country’s laws can be difficult, can you imagine what another world’s laws would be? Not only does Jane have to deal with being in a new world, one she refers to as ‘JRR Tolkien on crack’, but she has to deal with the powers that Sylthia has apparently bestowed upon her. This is definitely an addition to my keeper shelf.
